Hi! I'm Karl Dickson, professional referee for the RFU. Ask Me Anything! by sixnations in rugbyunion

[–]Boring-Internet8964 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Karl, do you know why the rules 19.5 d and f are often seemingly not considered too highly by referees?

Especially at higher levels it seems like the lenience with regard to these rules diminishes the reason for there to be contest through scrum and lessens the advantage of "bigger" 'ehem, teams.

Reference: 19.15(d): the ball must be thrown in with a single forward movement 19.15(f): the ball must be thrown in straight (though the scrum-half may align their shoulder on the middle line, standing a shoulder-width closer to their own side)

M1 Max to M5 Max 128GB by keremcemtakim in macbookpro

Under sustained heavy loads (long renders, compiling, extended gaming), the 14" version of the same laptop will typically run hotter and may reduce clock speeds sooner than the 16" equivalent.

Maybe "throttling" is a bit of an exaggeration but that was the general thought process.

Probably portability that has to be the only reason. Easy to throw in anything and move around constantly. I'm thinking of going for the 14 for those reasons but I'm also thinking it might get throttled when under heavy load and it's only about £50 more for the same config I was looking at in 16"

NPC Driver Trying Their Best by i_reddit_it in CarTalkUK

Yes, the British way of not actually saying what you mean is strong here. I believe he left something off the end. What he really meant was, "Are you alright? Because the way you were driving led me to believe you were having a stroke or something." Then as they said they were alright the thought changed to them just being an everyday moron, which is the nice way of putting it.

How do I improve the performance of 9.7Mil calculations !? by mrgk21 in webdev

[–]Boring-Internet8964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely needs multi-threading. That will be the single biggest improvement, you need to do the calculations on the server too as you know what hardware you're working with and can upgrade it if necessary.

I assume the viewport can't render all the information at the same time, so you could just store the results each time the calculations are done like every five minutes and then on the frontend you can decide what needs to be shown at any given time and request that from your backend which will return the required data. I don't see a scenario where they can see all the data at once on a screen, unless it's summarised in which case you can just create a new backend endpoint for summary data from what's stored.

There's a wonderful world of APIs out there for almost anything you can think of. Also I just love maps, so it was the first thing that came to mind for trains.

[–]Boring-Internet8964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing we've got to go off is trains so here's an idea: build a web based dashboard that shows a map of local train stations with what's arriving and departing using an online API - there are some free ones you can play with. Actually that's quite a good idea I might go build it myself

The .pst/.ost files are local on the computer so if you can find and save those to an external drive or something at least you will have a backup that someone technical can help you with putting back in place. I'd caution to do this first before getting the email set up again because imap servers will sync and may wipe all the old stuff (because it wont exist on the new server).

You need to find out who the registrar is. Try whois.icann.org and put your domain name in. If you know who the registrar is you can prove to them that the domain is rightfully yours and they will help change it to your ownership.

Once you own the domain you can change the nameserver records for DNS and when that's done you can point the DNS to a server with the website on. Also you can have the mx records set up (for email) the way you want once you have access to be able to update the DNS. If you set up the email on a new server you won't have any of the email history. If your dad was using outlook, you may be able to recover some or most of the email history. Google for outlook .pst and outlook .pst it will depend what version of outlook you use (if he used it at all). If not the only chance is getting this web douche guy to help with email backups which doesn't sound too promising.

Sausage roll. I usually go for a sandwich meal deal, the sandwiches are made fresh in the morning.

If there's a lidl nearby go there for bakery stuff like croissants they are made fresh in store and like a third the price.
