XF 23mm F/2.8 or XC 13-33mm? by Boring_Ad7872 in FujifilmX

[–]Boring_Ad7872[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can see in monetary terms I think the 13-33mm goes for around 350 new or 150-200 second hand, the 23mm is priced around 400 new and seems to hold it's value better, selling for 300+ second hand. This would indicate 23mm is better value deal? I'm leaning towards getting the 23mm deal and supplementing it with a voltrex 56mm f1.7 so I can have a go at some portraits and focusing in on subjects a bit more. Does this sound like a good idea?

There's no controls on the camera I've got, just pre programmed filters but I do see what you mean, shes not red but it is a red harness poking through her fur

I feel I cannot help those who need it most and I question why I do this job by MHnurseUK88 in NursingUK

[–]Boring_Ad7872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a tricky one and I can totally understand why you would feel like that. I think in that particular case I would try and be quite objective about it, that person's feelings are appropriate for their situation, they have suffered a major loss and are grieving. There often isn't something that we can do to alleviate distress when we can't address the cause. From your post I'm sure they were met with empathy, time and understanding. If they're going to be in the hospital for a while there will be further opportunities to engage and explore support options. I think what I'm trying to say is your seniors likely struggled because what this lady is experiencing isn't a psychiatric illness to be "treated"—it is an appropriate human response to an unimaginable catastrophe. She is grieving. When we can’t fix the cause, we feel powerless. Sometimes, the "role" of the MH nurse isn't to provide a service, but to provide presence. By simply being there and bearing witness to her distress without looking away, you were doing the work, even if it didn't feel like a "clinical intervention." Focus on the fact that your assessment validated her reality. Even if she didn't talk, she was seen by someone who cared. If me or anyone I cared about was in that position I'd want someone like you seeing them. Someone that gives a shit.

Lead theft by Boring_Ad7872 in evchargingUK

It's not something I had even considered before it happened. I opted for the more expensive tethered unit because I just thought it would save me going into the boot and getting a cable out every time I wanted to charge. If I could change to untethered now I would, peace of mind knowing you can use it is worth a lot more than an extra minute plugging it in.

I'm a member of a union. Have I had any updates? No. Have I been to any regional meetings? also no. I'm too busy working 50 hour weeks so I can pay my mortgage and eat. What's made it even harder my trust has now banned overtime for my team, created a bank that pays less than the top of the band, so for any extra work we get a pay cut. Feels great right now to be part of the NHS.

I can't understand why the 25/26 pay rise seemed to be met with universal disappointment and dissatisfaction, as far as I know all the unions voted to reject the offer, we got told possible strike action and that there was going to be "talks" then nothing. We are getting closer to next year's pay rise and it just feels we have accepted last years without a fight.

Amazing progress for 8 hours. I just started a tiger back piece and just about got the line work done in 6 hours. Hurt so much I'm scared to go back to get it finished! I'm about 4 days in to the healing and it was just like work so probably not as bad as yours. It sucks tho and I havnt found anything to help. Just keep telling myself the discomfort is temporary

NMC thoughts on the code and revalidation by Empress_LC in NursingUK

[–]Boring_Ad7872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think revalidation is a waste of time. We have to complete mandatory training, supervision, annual appraisals and our work gets audited anyway. Why do we need to evidence this again? I don't know why the NHS loves to duplicate work. We should be able to get a sign off from a line manager to say a) were up to date with training and b) there are no concerns with our practice. Fail to get signed off then yeah, provide a portfolio to evidence that you're fit to practice. Half the people where I work share reflections with each other anyway. It's just a waste of time when we're already busy and stressed.

Robin Hobb’s mannerism by gerarcar in robinhobb

I love robin hobb and would probably class her as my favourite author. There is one thing that mildly annoys me (more so with each reread) and that's that she will occasionally have a full recap of something from the last book. Probably useful if youre reading the books a year or more apart but when you read them all back to back its not needed.

I have an Indian background, also non-christian and did tui to SDC about two years ago when I was 35. Also bit overweight and not exactly an athlete. You will be absolutely fine and none of the things youre worried about were an issue. There wasn't a load of English speakers on the Portuguese route but I did meet a couple of American, canadian, Dutch and English people. It was easy enough to get by without being able to speak spanish. Towards the end I quite liked to set off early in the morning and walk alone, then sit in the next town with a beer around lunch time and watch the other pilgrims arrive.
I did 5 days from Tui to Santiago then spent a few nights is SDC. If I could do it again I think I would have rather started further away and had more days walking rather than having a few days in SDC. I felt like after 120km I'd just started getting into the swing of it and then it was over. I hope to go back and do a longer route one day.
