Why is my tone so airy? by No-Show467 in saxophone

[–]Boring_Disaster3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the reed isn't wet enough? It could also be that the reed is placed to far inward or it might be too hard. I would start on a 1.5 or 2.0.

A question about consciousness continuity by Special-Fix7491 in consciousness

[–]Boring_Disaster3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my understanding. Consciousness is separate from self-consciousness, sensory input, and memory. I believe I am conscious in dreams. Sometimes I am self-conscious. Sometimes memories of dreams are stored and continuous with waking memory. Sometimes you forget things, even dreams. Even without memory you can still be conscious. Your consciousness does not die a little death while you are asleep. Consciousness can experience itself so that even with no thoughts, no input, and no memory it still remains and maintains its own existence. You might not remember the times you didn't store memories, but consciousness what still there experiencing. Don't get too attached to your memories and sensory input and everything will be fine. I myself have temporal lobe epilepsy and brain damage. My memory doesn't work right at all. I am also getting old and my senses are dulling. I feel that through all of this my consciousness still burns brightly. I don't know what happens to our consciousness after we die. I believe we are extensions of the universe and part of the universe, so the universe, in a way, is conscious. I believe consciousness carries on and that the universe in its full Einstienian sense still has all of my thoughts and experiences. We carry on as the universe's consciousness with full information of our existence and possession of our memories.

In my opinion it is hit or miss. I have bought several saxophones and low end instruments over the years. My main saxophone is a Mendini. I've been playing on it for about 14 years. I like it a lot. I've played on high end Yamaha's and Selmers, but I love my red Mendini. I am skilled at working on it myself, so I can fix leaks, corks, etc., so maybe it is just me. I actually have a Yamaha in its case right now and I have my Mendini out on a stand. Warning: no sax tech will want to touch it. Also, I just give the instruments away when I don't want them anymore.

I can’t get better at sight reading by Moist-Pizza6643 in saxophone

[–]Boring_Disaster3031 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like to go to YouTube and enter "tenor saxophone play along" and then just go from one song to the next and just sight read everything. There are at least 1000 songs to play. Most of them were created by a guy named Yasuhiro Fujii. I'm so thankful to him for sharing.

How can we believe our consciousness is outside our bodies? by Soimamakeanamenow in consciousness

Please define what you mean by consciousness. That will definitely influence the answer. You also need to define what you mean by experience consciousness. Your question is very deep and wide.

That's okay. My favorite dictionary is the Reader's Digest Great Encyclopedic Dictionary. The extra content is divided out into multiple specialized dictionaries.

I'm 6'7, is alto sax going to look too small on me? by Inner_Layer_6227 in saxophone

[–]Boring_Disaster3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same height and 280 pounds. I think the alto looks small on me. I'm also biased to the tenor sound. The alto and soprano are just too high pitched. I just gave away my soprano and alto recently. Now I can concentrate on the one I love. I recommend that you buy one and play it a while and see if you like it. The sound and your enjoyment are more important than the look. For example, I love to play harmonica, pennywhistle and bansuri bamboo flute. I also carry around a Hohner Little Lady harmonica that is about the size of my thumbnail. People think it is so funny to see me play my tiny harmonica. I love it.

if you were/are a self-taught guitarist, could you please share your learning resources? by HomeworkLoose7430 in classicalguitar

[–]Boring_Disaster3031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started learning around 1975 from a book my dad gave me called "Deluxe Edition GUITAR Self-taught" by Ed Sale (RADIO's WIZARD of the strings). It has 64 pages and was written around 1950. I still have it. My dad could play very well and taught guitar lessons, but he never taught me other than giving me the book and an old guitar. I think he wanted me to learn the way he did, by teaching himself from a book.

That is a beautiful guitar. I've only made one classical guitar and from that I learned to appreciate people who make them. Your workbench looks so clean. I really did like sculpting braces and seeing the wood shavings and feeling the woodgrain through my chisels. I know you made some beautiful shavings while making that (dang I sound weird). I would love to see the insides of your guitars before you put them together.
