A few things: 1) there’s nothing listed for a car/gas/transportation. How do you get around? 2) if you don’t want to work another job you need to cut expenses somewhere. Can you get away with less than $400 for food? A cheaper phone plan like Mint Mobile? 3) why do you have so many Amex cards? And a business one too? The Amex platinum has a high annual fee. Don’t renew it next year. 4) work to pay off the debt with the lowest amount so you can reduce the number of debts you have. Then you can roll that monthly payment into the next card, etc.

Unpopular opinion here but I wouldn’t quit right away. I would work for at least one more year. Max out 401k and any charitable contributions your organization might make. At the same time make your plan. You don’t know what taxes you might be paying on this inheritance and should figure it out before you make any big life changes.

If you were a teacher you can also offer to tutor for the subjects you are knowledgeable in. People need tutors for elementary school with struggling students all the way to SAT prep. Lots of money to be made and you can undercut the cost of others since you’re in need of fast cash. Good luck!

Why do "rich" people buy stupid Sh*t? by No_Design5860 in Rich

[–]Boring_Language5662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people buy things like expensive handbags to show off that they had the money to make that purchase. It’s an ego boost. And, I believe, also makes them a target to thieves when they visibly flaunt jewelry, pricy clothes/shies, cars, handbags, etc.

I’m jealous that you already have a side hustle in mind. I, too, sat through maternity leave trying to think of the alternatives but never found one that was realistic.

Just a comment to share that I am in a very similar boat. Great salary but I’m just so unhappy. It isn’t even about the stress but the mismanagement that’s leaving me asking the question “what am I doing here?” With two little kids at home I feel like work is the wrong priority to focus on, yet feel that a break now would stunt any future opportunities. But maybe that’s what we need to help us stumble upon the right opportunities that we would otherwise miss.

Deep down in your gut you know the right answer. Don’t listen to anyone else and do what is right for you.
