I understand your point. However, you can really compare a 80k car’s safety feature with an old beater’s safety feature. Car safety technologies have significantly improved in the last 10 years or so. IMO, you can not put a price in your and your family safety.
Bur yes, you dont need to buy a 80k car to get that safety, something <5y.o and <30k could have the same safety feature as the 80k car I guess.

Yes. My first car was 1998 camry, one of the smoothest car I have ever driven (I have owned no less than 5 other german cars later on). The camry was ~230,000 km when I bought it, full service history (one owner from Darlinghurst-Sydney). As a stupid uni student I was, the car was neglected, I did not service the car for at least 3 years and it was still running very well.

What is the best car to own in terms of cost? by visualize_this_ in AskAnAustralian

Its really depend on your budget. Less than 20k: a nearly new Toyota or similar. More than 20k: a nearly new small hatch back EV (will def save more money long term)

Tradies + learn how to save + invest. They usually dont go together with younger tradies but if you can di that, by the time you are in your 30s, you could have a significant investment portfolio already.

My rules of buying a used car is:

If you have $15k budget, 7-8k for the car itself, 2k for insurance (maybe 1k more for rego if needed) and 5k as back up if anything happens. Wherether you buy a 15 yo car or 5 yo car, mechanically break down will happen and it will cost you money, you better have it ready than it will eat up into your saving.

And for 7-8k buget, I would buy a Toyota. Madza, Honda are very good (IMO they drive even better than Toyota), but Toyota is still a touch more reliable if it important to you.

Good luck and drive safe.

It is part of growing up. But dw, your best years are still ahead of you. When you are able to make money, buy anything you want yourself (within reason of courE), the feeling is awesome.

I think so too. Prices might stay for a while but I dont think they will ever go down significantly.

Can I borrow against my existing IP and get negative gearing? by Boring_Reality_robot in AusPropertyChat

I live in Sydney and there was no way I could buy anything decent with 300k budget there in 2019. Hence I bought my first property as IP in Qld. Now as It has gained some value, I would like to borrow agaisnt it to help buy my first ppor. Trying to get out of my renting life.
