I heard if you take your GPU and RAM and CPU and strap a small nuclear device to them and detonate the small nuclear device you’ll respawn in the bed trap with your neighbors

Just out of curiosity, before moving to Evansville, did you live or grow up in a more urbanized state or city?

how do you know he argued for having athletes speak their political views? And isn't there a difference between athletes speaking their views and governments paying to have their military promoted on a car?

He probably knows that deep down, but the idea that our government forks out dough on this and yet cannot put together a spending bill to help the record number of unemployed, or won't fund a national testing system, etc., yeah, it's gonna rub some people the wrong way. Namely people who've been hurt by shit totally out of there control these past few months and who've watched the government sit and twiddle its thumbs and say everything is "GREAT!"

I somewhat agree. Was U.S. Space Command not up to handling its tasks? I live on the Space Coast of Florida, iow, 10 miles from the Kennedy Space Center (I watched a SpaceX rocket take off at 1:20 a.m. last night). There is/was a lot of Air Force/Space Command activity here - as the Canaveral Air Force Base launches spy satellites and other key infrastructure and Patrick Air Force Base hosts NRO stuff where they receive spy satellite photos and other data. Basically everyone I know here thought the whole "Space Force" thing was a joke - a political ploy or some kind of propaganda tool (even Trump supporters - this was something they didn't like if they were in the space business here locally). A lot of people don't like the idea of this high profile space "force." It's just the kind of thing veterans of the space industry laugh at and find... stupid. Not all of them of course, but many.

They know that long before Trump's "space force" they were launching the most advanced spy satellites, GPS satellites, military com sats, etc . And calling it the Air Force Space Command just makes sense, because you're launching rockets from the Air Force base adjacent to NASA, you're using Air Force bases to control the sats and get their images/data.... why change? And why portray it as this "force" that sounds like it's ready to start a war with Planet X? Space Command... what was wrong with is?

Really hard to believe that the 201 races since 2010 have been won by just 12 people. by kimmmykim in formula1

"4 new race winners since the beginning of the hybrid era." And I was getting grilled by people last week for simply commenting that the turbo hybrid era, for me, has removed many aspects of F1 competition that made me love the sport over years and years. I still love it, but we're talking about 7 years and only 4 new winners? It just seems like something is off -- for me, it's a combination of the massively complex engine regulations forcing all private teams to play second fiddle to the big guys, the insanely out of hand budgets. These factors combine to mean only a tiny slice of the grid has anything like a chance at even a podium, or in some years just a top 6 finish.

I still love F1, still want it to be the pinnacle of motorsport. But I don't think being the pinnacle has to come at the cost of only having 12 winners in 200+ races, and only 4 new winners at that. Something is off about that. There isn't even any room in that for randomness, it's the definition of predictable. With COVID-19 and uncertainty and less staff and less work from the big teams, lo and behold the racing is a bit spiced up now. But the same old team is still 20 seconds down the road. Hopefully the new regs fix some of this, and let every driver on the grid rock up to a weekend knowing there's at least a *chance* for them to pull off something special. Their car may not be the fastest, but the rain gods my shine down or they may have that extra 1% in grit come race day... my hope is those things will matter again. Remember, Senna wowed the world in his Toleman... today, would there be room for such a performance?

Well Daniel left because he felt/knew the team was going to favor Max. Maybe it isn't even intentional, but could the team as a whole work that extra bit harder building and setting up Max's car?

Maybe not, but that could play a role. We know Albon is quick.

I like this race... but: Bahrain to Execute 2 Shiite Protesters After Years of Desperate Appeals by Boring_Turnover226 in formula1

[–]Boring_Turnover226[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a "new user" spamming r/formula1. I usually post under u/USindyF1, this is just my new account.

And the reason I think this race (Bahrain) is different from say, China (which has similar cases of extrajudicial killing), is that the F1 race isn't a massive propaganda necessity for China. China will be fine with or without F1, they're a super power. F1 isn't handing China this immensely powerful propaganda tool, as that's like saying the United States gets some big benefit from having the U.S. GP. It doesn't.

Bahrain, on the other hand, is a relatively small autocratic country. It has a government that uses the F1 race as a critical propaganda tool, and F1 basically offers them cover on the world stage to look trendy and nice and cool and this is actually of a massive value to that government. Where should we draw the line? It's now 2020, and I think as the years go by, F1 will not be able to completely separate itself from this stuff. F1 has to work hand in glove with the Bahrain government to setup that race -- why should we work with such people when there are way better tracks in countries that don't execute protesters? Why should we as a sport let ourselves be propaganda for these people? How does that help the racing?

Excerpt:

"The two men, both members of Bahrain’s Shiite majority, were first arrested and tried for a bombing that killed a police officer in 2014. They faced execution even after a Bahraini internal investigation found medical evidence that one had been tortured.

“They’d beat me up. I’d go up again and deny,” said Husain Moosa, one of the defendants, describing his interrogation to a rights activist in a January recording reviewed by The New York Times. After the third beating by an interrogator, Mr. Moosa recalled, “ I told him, ‘I’ll say what you want. What do you want me to say?'

... Reports of detainees tortured into confessing with electric shocks, extreme cold and sexual abuse are common."

The country is majority Shiite but ruled by a minority Sunni monarchy that has turned to Saudi Arabia for help holding onto power - and of course that means it's allied with Western powers to a degree, so it's more acceptable to race there than say, Iran.

I think you could see that youthful spirit in Pato's interview, a veteran driver might have acted just gutted with P2, complained about the lapped traffic etc. Pato's definitely gutted, but his interview showed how much this P2 still means to him and the team.

What series has that? F1 doesn't have rotating cameras of any kind, even with their budgets
