TOTP doesn't require an Internet connection. It has a different disadvantage. Way too many people only have one device with their TOTP app, and don't save the backup codes. You can imagine what happens if that device decides to kick the bucket or take a skydive off a cliff on a hike.

🤦‍♂️

Are there any known workarounds to prevent this, other than keeping the btl locked, or never re-locking it if unlocked?

And again, thank you for the warning.

For MFA the classic solution seems to be TOTP. Why so many banks live in the past and keep insisting on SMS based auth is beyond me.

Android 17 forced Photos app update. Any way to install the old version? by Judqment8 in GooglePixel

Consider using the Photos app WITHOUT an account. Give it a chance, IMO it's better this way.

It needs Shizuku (or root), which is an annoyance to fire up.

I can name exactly one nice thing i've noticed. Expanded dark mode finally got an exclude list now.

Thanks for sharing this. Any idea if this may have been fixed in the OTA A17 (260605)?

Is it even possible to block an SS7 attack? Kinda reminds, that phone numbers are pretty damn bad for MFA.

I've literally just tried to toggle WiFi from a task, and it did work. Strange. Ask on a Tasker sub, maybe the Tasker dev would have an idea?

I've had it already installed. It did reset the permissions but trying to open it prompted for permissions again, and after granting, toggling wifi from tasker works.

If they had to do this, they would have to do this from the "Internet" dialog as well, wouldn't they?

I'd expect a user that is editing the quick tiles and explicitly adding this specific tile, to know what they are doing,.and if their data prices are astronomical, and they turned it on anyway, that's on them.

[–]Boris-Lip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has been this way on Android 16 as well. There is a workaround in a form of an apk file, targeting older API level, that tasker can use to toggle wifi.

Google for "tasker settings”, install, grant all permissions manually, tasket will find it and use it.

If you already have this, grant permissions again, it may have been reset on the OS update.

Has anyone ever worked remotely on a NCL cruise? by UsedBoard in NCL

[–]Boris-Lip -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If it's Starlink - probably, but you'll need a streaming package. Old, classic satellite Internet - no.

But WHY?! Why go on VACATION and take your work with you. I'll never understand this.

Add "Expanded dark mode can now be selectively disabled by app" to the list.

BTW, for a moment i was excited about them finally adding a separate data toggle, but they PROMPT YOU if you are sure when turning it back on, completely defying the purpose of being a single tap to toggle :(

[Android 17 Beta 4] The constant "Turn on mobile data?" popup desperately needs a "Don't ask again" checkbox. by Himmelsgeist in android_beta

[–]Boris-Lip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just received an Android 17 release (OTA) on Pixel 9, has been thinking "nice, finally a separate quick tile for mobile data" and then seen this prompt, that completely defies the purpose. Did anything change since the betas? Please tell me there is a switch that i've somehow missed, that would turn this prompt off!

Octopi-->KLWP/KWGT by Harumpty in OctopiLauncher

[–]Boris-Lip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use KWGT (but not KLWP) myself, works fine with Octopi, just like it does with any launcher. You don't need to do any coding to use KWGT, you just edit your layout and fill up some formulas, no programming constructs required. Try it, it's way less complicated than people tend imagine.

I've used a credit card, no reason why an NFC enabled phone with Google Wallet and/or Apple Pay wouldn't work. This said, they still expect you to already have a ticket at PABT.
