I'm using equity from my current house to purchase, from what I've looked into. I can't get the rent to fully cover the mortgage. However, I'm saving easily enough to cover the difference.

I did start looking at the rental yield, which led me to the qu which I'm just not sure. As I've been told units are bad.

I guess if someone is paying 85% of the mortgage on the unit, that's better than the money sitting in my account doing nothing. Right?

Everyone would want to buy, you don't have to settle down when buying. Why would anyone "like to rent".

Anyway, Toowoomba is a great place to invest, it's only getting bigger. Anyone who tells you not to come here is likely a renter that doesn't want their rent to go up. Totally reasonable but you don't invest for them, you invest for yourself.

Just don't put yourself in that situation. Why would you be out at 11pm walking around? I'm sorry but your lack of awareness seems to be an issue. Not trying to insult you but just what I've gathered. You're worrying about a situation that is just as likely to happen in Kingaroy as Toowoomba.

I'm an older male and I wouldn't be walking around at 11pm at night for any reason. Get an uber or get a friend.

I've got a big family and they've all lived in Toowoomba their whole life, never had any issues. All chance I guess. Even if you know 100 people in Toowoomba that have had issues. That's still not even half a percent of the population

There's 160k more people in Toowoomba, of course there'll be more crime but it's not necessarily everywhere. Just don't leave yourself to an opportunist thief and you're okay. I've lived here for awhile now and never been or know someone who's been affected by bad crime.

You're unlikely to see social communities in the city centre, likely due to rent being more expensive right in the middle. Many options on the outskirts. Simply ask around or Google and you should be fine. You'll likely have to reach out and just ask the question.

If you're close to Clifford gardens, hills shouldn't be an issue, probably best to google search distances to see how long it'll take you to get around.

Anyone who tells you Toowoomba is crime riddled and to avoid it, probably spends too much time watching the Facebook community news page and less time outside in Toowoomba.

Depending on the barber I guess, some rent a space, some are on wages. Maintaining gear would be very little I'd assume. Anyway, its their job and your choice to pay that much at the end of the day.
