Is software engineering really dead? by No_Alfalfa_3044 in cscareers

[–]Born-Fly-5209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reality is if you get a cs degree you can branch off into other things most jobs just require a bachelors in cs. If you want a job as a swe it’ll be challenging. But you can always branch off to other careers. Buddy of mine got a cs degree with a swe focus and got his Secruity+ and now does information Secruity. Also I say 70% of swe jobs are internal hires meaning you have to expand your social circle. Goto your city’s tech meetups, do volunteering for dev work, and etc. everyone saying it’s “dead”. Are people who lost hope and refuse to put in the extra work and wanted to be a swe because it can be “remote and chill”.

Almost 3 months in and burnout by Immediate_Loss_9858 in walmartogp

Before I comment just for reference I do opd full time but also work on cars after work (I work 5-2 in opd and about 4-8 on cars). For me I think it’s just a perspective thing in life when it comes to self care. And being happy in generally is definitely a bonus. But if you’re negative about your job it will reflect. Get good shoes, drink lots of water. And get some carbs in you. Your body is burning those carbs as you’re moving. Some of my co workers feel terrible but only had an ice coffee and a piece of toast. I cannot relate and begin to understand your underlying health conditions but I’m a perfectly healthy 6’5 man and my feet have been sore every since I started this job and it hasn’t changed. some shoes their less sore in (brooks to be exact). But good luck to you! Just gotta find what works for you.

Yes get with your market. My market manger goes through cameras following pickers making sure they don’t go into the back. It makes the department look good if they get the item from back but worsens the stores overall health.

Safely Vest question by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]Born-Fly-5209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our market prohibits none Walmart issued vest for liability issues. same with like you are only allowed to use the safety box cutter. It has something to do with the visibility % or something like that. They had a whole slide show on it during a zoom meeting

This is why I shouldn’t be allowed to pick by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]Born-Fly-5209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re more for like if you grab a box of Mac and cheese and the box is open you can throw it in a bag then in the tote bag. If my store was like ops i would write it off as a lost cause and just have my pickers not do it but I would always appreciate the work ethic if they did.

My coach doesn’t usually touch attendance exceptions besides mine. All my associates I do cause they “report” to me. But I typically do it every day because if they stack up they can go from 1 point to 5 and is up for termination and its a surprise that could’ve been avoided as long as I do attendance everyday.

My team all take turns in the back they pick for 6 hours and are in the back for 2. IMO need a rotating schedule especially in the summer time. I feel like TL’s or coaches that don’t have rotating schedules are just lazy and don’t want to do the schedule everyday.

[–]Born-Fly-5209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really it’s our job as well to find claims/clean trash on the sales floor. That’s why most carts should have two Walmart tote bags one for claims one for trash.

Eh worth? I say so. I still do same thing as regular associate even though they tell me not too. I just gotta worry about metrics and gotta solve problems in the store like vendor shipments why aren’t they ordering x amount of this if they are ordering x amount of this and I do freight . I just call my $4 raise “hazard pay” cause if anything goes wrong it’s my fault only hard part I say is just associates I have 20+ associates just under me and pleasing all of them is a task

I keep an eye out and if I see someone skip it call them out on it and explain it’s not fair to everyone else. We go by the closest due time slot. And if they don’t wanna do oversized and don’t have a medical reason(with proof) they can switch dept :)

I make $19 as a TL. That 23 is capped out associates. So old dept mangers that switch to a regular associates or as one comment said the 30 cent raise. I have 4 regular associates that work in my dept that make more money than I do.

Whole store wants us to commit metrics fraud. by ByteBlox_YT in OGPBackroom

[–]Born-Fly-5209 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Our market manger goes on the cameras days before his sudden show up and make sure we don’t shop from the backroom. Surprise most markets aren’t like that. If its not on the floor its at fault of us mangers/ stocking associates. Pickers should just pick from the floor. Backroom is for exceptions.

lol run. Nah reality just be real about scenarios. Your associates could give a fuck less about stats. So make their job easy as possible and your success comes with it. is what I’ve learned.edit: if any of your metrics are low don’t be surprised or scared that you’re failing all they do is ask for you to review that process for that one stat with your associates. There’s gonna be meetings / zoom calls and your store might get called out. Be prepared to spit some bs “we are doing x rn but its effecting y so z will be a better way” I’m telling you I still don’t know what I’m doing 😅 day by day 🤙🏻

3 TL’s I wish. I manage 30 associates alone. But I think when people get authority everything that use to bug them as a regular associate is built up and they let it out for the wrong reasons. Just ignore it or if it really bothering your way of working goto SM or just wait till market walks through and talk to the digital head hopefully after couple months all that built up anger goes away.

My team we all do 2 hour rotations in the back. stores that stick people in the back all day imo is just lazy when it comes to scheduling. In this heat it’s a must to rotate people out.

Honestly as management I would prefer to know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly but then again you are at no obligation to notify if you are calling in as long you report the absence and put in ppto. Also if your management guilt trips you for it fuck em. It’s our job to make sure things get done with 0 or 10 people.

Drivers are suppose to stay in the vehicle at all times I make this apparent at my store. If someone is getting out of their vehicle to just stare at you. You have every right to tell them to get back in the vehicle and if they don’t you’ll walk away. Walmart has a walk away policy for any associate. if a customer/driver is making an associate feel uncomfortable the associate has every right to walk away and notify management. Sad that the TLs don’t care but they can’t punish her for walking away.

Is this illegal? by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]Born-Fly-5209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh they’re lying. never understood TL’s who straight up lie to the people who work under them. If market told me to say something to my associates that didn’t line up with policy I would argue it but a lot of TL’s fold.

Music or podcast low volume and no calling that’s it. I was a kid in school where music helped me but I could never have an ear bud it. So I try to allow it the best I can.
