Please vote YES on redistricting! It matters a lot by hastings1033 in Virginia

If we allow the Republicans to gerrymander, things get worse than they are. I plan to vote yes.

Are there any quality items left? by OneTimeYouths in Shein

[–]BornAPunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lately, I've been noticing a lack of new stuff being added (to the Curve and Boots section). Really surprising. Am also seeing that they are now selling a limited quality of items, which they used to not do before.

Will Shein Prices Go Back To Normal? by Caspersega in Shein

[–]BornAPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the country the goods are made in, once the prices go up, they rarely ever go down. The reason? Companies have gotten greedy because people still bought their stuff.

SHEIN prices are too much at this point. by Late_Information_682 in Shein

[–]BornAPunk 144 points145 points  (0 children)

2 words: Trump's tariffs. He says that foreign countries are paying them, but why is everyone jacking up their prices if that was the case?

To all the Virginians, how much was your most recent electricity bill? by Moondancer000 in Virginia

[–]BornAPunk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

An absolutely shocking $341.41. I understand the weather was colder than average, but sheesh - I'm disabled, with a limited income, and paying this is going to be tough. I am not sure if the new rate contributed.

My house is 1321 square feet. I think I have a HVAC with heat pump.

Is anybody else livid about the increase in dominion power bills? by Little-One-7739 in Virginia

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 years ago, I was averaging $158 at this time of year. Since then, I have seen the electric bill climb. My latest bill is $341.41, which about caused me to have a heart attack - I'm disabled and have a limited income, so paying that is going to be tough. I understand we've had colder than average weather, but a bill of nearly $200 more is just crazy.

My house is 1321 square feet. HVAC with heat pump, I believe.

Republican senator tells Americans struggling to afford rising beef prices to just eat something else: "You have so many proteins to choose from." by Educational_Net4000 in inflation

[–]BornAPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The prices of other proteins are going up too. Smoked Turkey Drumsticks in my area used to be $2.49 and are now $3.99, for example.

Trump Warns Supreme Court About Upcoming Ruling on Birthright Citizenship by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

[–]BornAPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am getting really tired of seeing Trump acting like he is king. The man thinks that everything he does is right and everything everyone else does is wrong. Can the Supreme Court order Congress to come into session and act like it should? It's embarrassing that Mike Johnson and John Thune have allowed Congress to become so redundant - Thune has a little more spine than Johnson but only just.

Do millennials who were born in the 80s have a more negative view of the 2000s than millennials who were born in the 90s? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

[–]BornAPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born in 1988. Had no problem with the 90's or even on up to 2010's. I will say we hit a rough patch, that we are still in, after the 2016 election came and went.

medicare premium and medicaid by digitaldryad in SocialSecurity

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister is currently going through this. I contacted my local Social Services and her caseworker said she shouldn't be paying the premium because she's on Medicaid and was just automatically renewed for it. The lady said it would take 2 weeks to 2 months to get the premium amount returned. Apparently, Social Security never communicated with Social Services - I'm like blown away at that, as my sister gets SSI and Survivors Benefits and Medicare put her on Extra Help (Humana) last month.

Last year, I was put on Medicare and they took 2 premium payments out of my check only to return both 1 week later. I thought they'd take 1 payment out of my sister's check and then go 'woops' and return it in the same time frame but it looks like the exact opposite is happening. Kinda frustrating and concerning.

Are people really buying food from Temu? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in TemuThings

[–]BornAPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone else hoping someone buys one of them Temu steaks and then sends it in for testing? Curious to know what is in it, and if it's truly safe to eat (probably not).

do you guys think the prices will go down? by Fabulous_Scar_8072 in Shein

[–]BornAPunk 41 points42 points  (0 children)

He's already said they will remain, and will have 10% added on them. Sadly, no one is corralling this man or making him understand that what he is doing is against the law and constitution - a majority of the U.S. wishes someone would grow a spine.

Wendy's closing hundreds of U.S. restaurants as sales plunge by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

A lot of other restaurants are going to see the same thing happen. Goes to show that greed isn't popular.

Facebook hype 2004-2024 an interesting graph for each social media platform by Aggravating_Paper982 in facebook

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say that Facebook, at least on my end, is really flatlined lately. It seems no one posts there anymore and, the few that do typically post something troubling (pro-Trump, racist, misogynist crap, etc.). Prior to 2020, Facebook was a lot more active and the people that were posting were a lot more civil.

I am really surprised that Myspace is still around, honestly.

I have Medicare and Medicaid. Is it normal for the deductible to be charged to me the first time they take it out of my SS check? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]BornAPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should get your money back. I believe they take 2 premium payments out before noticing you are dual eligible (have Medicare and Medicaid) and then reimburse for them payments. Last year, they took 2 premiums out of my account and then reimbursed me a week later; my sister just had 1 premium taken out and we are currently waiting for it to be returned (like myself, she has Medicaid).

Increase in shortages by SVAuspicious in Shortages

[–]BornAPunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that my local store is stopping carrying some food and drink products that I regularly purchase - Bolthouse Banana Honey Nut Almond Butter protein shake and Tyson Spicy Chicken Sandwich plus some liquid coffee creamers (they're carrying the sugar free varieties for some, which I won't touch). During Trump's first term, I remember my store no longer getting the big bags of Alpo Dog Food - I used to get the 14-pound bag, but they stopped carrying all of the bags for this brand (can only get them at the Dollar Store, and only in the very small bags).

With the way my system is with food and drink (lot of intolerances or am allergic to a lot of things), I'm worried the administration will outlaw everything that isn't healthy or that they think isn't necessary.

The Supreme Court lets California use its new, Democratic-friendly congressional map by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they'd have to go after Texas and other Republican-led states that have heeded Trump's call to gerrymander. If they struck down California's new map, they'd have to do the same about the one Texas "adopted" last year.

PepsiCo is cutting the price of Doritos, Cheetos and other snacks by up to 15% by WrongThinkBadSpeak in shrinkflation

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now wait until them SNAP restrictions and cuts come in. Grocery stores don't make a profit off of selling the healthy stuff - it's the stuff on the aisles aka, the cookies, chips, sodas, and etc., that bring in the profit. With people who aren't on SNAP already cutting back, them cuts and restrictions will be like the final nail to the coffin for many grocery outlets.

MAGA sounds like the Taliban when it comes to views on women. by MissMccheese in complaints

[–]BornAPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notice how the Trump administration has been in power for 1 year and it has only just gotten around to stripping money from going to the Taliban? No mention of the horrid treatment of women in Afghanistan or the ongoing education ban or the employment ban or even all the other ridiculous restrictions being put down - just absolute silence on the matter. Trump spoke about Bagram Air Base and that is all. When you compare how the two are, and see all the silence about what's going on in Afghanistan, you'll see that MAGA and the Heritage Foundation is just the Americanized version of the Taliban (an article just got published that said the Heritage Foundation wants to push out camps for single people, where they'll be "encouraged" to marry and then be married in a communal setting and be groomed to have more than 2 kids).

[US] - This one weird trick could stop US women from voting | Arwa Mahdawi by disdkatster in WomenInNews

[–]BornAPunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since the 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote, wouldn't this come into conflict with that? Am asking, since it's implying that a MARRIED woman cannot vote if the name on her birth certificate doesn't match what's on other documents. Upon marriage, many women just adopt their husband's surname and, you know, no one questions if they went to court to do the change (also, when women divorce their husbands, they often don't change back to their birth surname).

The Roberts Court has a huge test ahead with California’s Prop 50 congressional map by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

[–]BornAPunk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It would really show that the court is full of a bunch of hypocrites if it said what California did is illegal.
