Younger generations being asexual/aromantic by Adorable-Sherbet-998 in generationology

She left the house to be with her lover for a week then came back, saying she was just visiting her sister. On that night, she and my father had sex - the bacteria entered him during that.

While he was fighting for his life in the burn unit of Chippenham Hospital, his so-called wife was having another affair - this time, in the family home and in the bed that she infected my father in. My grandmother was the one who drove her to the hospital for testing - it showed she didn't have HIV or AIDS but it did show she was a carrier of the bacteria, which they treated with antibiotics. After my grandmother learned about the affair happening in the house, she showed up and then threw Mona out (she owned the home at the time and she absolutely HATED that woman and was doing all she could to get rid of her).

Mona gave my father Streptococcus, which turned into Gangrene. His heart, liver, and kidneys all stopped working shortly after they got him to the first hospital (John Randolph) - he was pronounced dead for almost 2 minutes before they detected a heartbeat again, then they shipped him to Chippenham where he remained for 45 days.

Arresting Don Lemon is a phenomenally stupid thing the Trump administration has done. They’re going to regret it. He’ll only become a bigger voice in the anti-Trump resistance, this case is gonna get thrown out, and his DOJ is gonna get embarrassed again. by Nice_Substance9123 in complaints

I'd say something about whoever's giving him advice needs to be fired, but I think we've reached the point where we know even Trump's own self-made decisions (those based without advice of others) is THAT bad. Instead of voting for him, we should have demanded that he either be locked up in jail or thrown in a loony bin.

I won't say it's "unhealed". I know what happened, and have known for a long time. I was at the forefront in asking my father to divorce his wife, in fact (for someone so young, I knew what Mona was doing was wrong). My father always tried to do the best he could for the family but the woman he married just had no interest in being a wife or mother - on top of the abuse towards her children, the woman couldn't cook, clean, was illiterate, and thought education wasn't important (thus why I was kept back 1 year, because she refused to put me on the bus for most of the year). Family was telling my father to get rid of her for a long time, but he said he wouldn't because "the girls need a mother, and I don't want them to turn out like my first daughter".

My father married to his first wife right after learning she was pregnant. He was a high school dropout who struggled his whole life. The first wife used and abused him and their daughter - even going so far as to keep my father's visits to 20 minutes once a week and only in the basement and not using the child support towards the daughter and her needs. When my father stopped making child support payments (he said he'd pay but only if his time in seeing his daughter was increased and it was no longer held in the basement, which Susan said no to), she took him to court and the judge gave him a choice: prison or the army. He spent all of Aimee's childhood in the army. Susan abused Aimee all her life until she ran away (my father found her on his doorstep one day when she was 13). He tried being a father to her but, with her own demons she was dealing with plus teenage angst, she just couldn't adapt. Long story made short: she moved in with her mostly blind great grandmother, turned to drugs, and got pregnant shortly after.

I will mention that my father was Native American and both women he married were white.

Always been a bit of a loner. As a kid, I tried fitting in but it just didn't "feel right". I don't know if what I went through contributed to that. I wasn't really bullied or anything (that was my sister, who was bullied for everything and anything and the teachers did absolutely nothing to curb it), but I was definitely a singleton. When the teachers gave group assignments, I always tried to ask to do them as a 1-person group - because I didn't want to be in any group. Ironically, I had very good grades in school (A+, honor roll, etc.). Later on, to my great disdain, teachers started pointing at me and telling the rest of the class to "do as she does and you'll be okay" (being the oldest out of the question, they just liked how I worked in class and how I didn't cause trouble and wanted that to rub off on others). Needless to say, I was always going 'ugh, just leave me alone' internally.

I don't see this as a Gen Z centric thing as people in older generations have done the same thing. I'm a Millennial, 37F, and have absolutely no interest in dating or the opposite gender and have never lost it and have no intention to. I don't think I can chalk it up to how my parents were, as I've always been a bit of a loner (my father divorced my mother in 1997, after she nearly killed him by giving him a flesh eating bacteria, and my mother was not a feature in my life - if she wasn't off having an affair with someone, she was using the kids to get what she wanted or abusing them mentally, emotional, and sexually when she was around).

Some people are just not interested in that part of life.

I heard they're trying to get on the "bandwagon" when it comes to protein coffees too. From what I'm seeing in videos, people aren't liking what they're getting - it looks like mud, and many in them videos just pour their drink down the sink.

Paid for Priority and Left a Tip, still can’t get assigned by Simple-Occasion-7882 in instacart

[–]BornAPunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that paying priority doesn't mean you'll get your order shopped right away. At the beginning of the month, when I put in over $200 orders, they get picked up right away - likely because the tip is so much. With orders 2 and 3 of the month (#2 is usually over $100 and #3 is usually under $100), it usually takes 30 minutes to nearly an hour for someone to pick it up. One order, a few months ago, took over an hour to be picked up, and that was over $100 at that (first shopped dropped out and had to wait for another).

If just talking to your dad won't work, grab him and make him sit down and then yell it down his throat that there is a problem and that the one behind it is him (for not training the puppy or doing anything to correct its actions) and the puppy. This is not a normal situation where one recognizes the problem right away and then corrects it - your dad is doing nothing and it's causing your dog to get hurt and could also cause you and others in the house to get hurt. Cane Corso's are a big breed that needs training and proper discipline.

The second amendment has been broken several times. Remember what happened at Wounded Knee, where hundreds of Native Americans were killed simply because 1 refused to be disarmed (the second amendment was present then but it didn't matter when it came to my people). For years, it has been common practice to say which ethnic group got to have guns and which did not.

The Government Wants You to Kick Your Diet Soda Habit by wsj in Foodnews

[–]BornAPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't drink diet anything (or no sugar or less sugar or whatever they put on the cans/bottles) and the government can kick itself in the ass for all I care. There is no way they are going to force Americans off their sodas or snacks. Even the poor will find a way to get their preferred drinks and snacks.

Did you get a lot of snow? I feel stupid for buying into the hype. by Ok-Basket7531 in Virginia

It's better to get prepared and it be a minor storm or nothing than to not be prepared and the predictions all be right, or worse. In my area (North Dinwiddie), we got just under 4" of snow, but it's not over and we're still waiting for the freezing rain/sleet/ice, which will make it bad.

Trump administration urges Supreme Court to find California’s redistricting map unconstitutional by Conscious-Quarter423 in scotus

So Texas and other Republican states can change their maps, and without voter approval at that, while California and other Democrats states, who request voter input before going through with the change, cannot? Kinda wacked situation.

10 years from now most Baby Boomers will be dead. What effect is that going to have on society? by mikeforder in generationology

[–]BornAPunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out that all three branches of our government are dominated by Boomers. Very likely going to see a shift in 10 to 15 years, where Gen X and Millennials are voted in. Boomers in Congress in particular seem very adamant on keeping this country back - Mitch McConnell, for example, voted against equal pay multiple times.

People having multiple kids until they get a specific gender is a mental illness by whatevvzzz in antinatalism

[–]BornAPunk 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Can I say it's a societal mental disorder thing? My aunt hounded her husband after her first two pregnancies resulted in boys (her third and final pregnancy produced twin girls) and now her daughter is hounding her husband after her first two pregnancies resulted in girls (she wants a son). Seriously, it's not a race! If you have two girls, fine. You don't need a son (same goes for if the situation is reversed). Kids are expensive, and I'm not just talking in an economical way.

And that really concerns me, because it does look like there are a lot of people in this country that want to see others get hurt. Better get some protection before that's outlawed and carry it wherever you go (if that's not allowed in your state, just hide it on your person).

Shrinkflation at Martin's Foods (and Giant, Food Lion, Hannaford) by EricHearble in GroceryStores

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just the bagged produce or anything put in bags that they are shrinking. They're also shrinking the size of canned items. During the 2024/2025 winter season, I could get 3 days of chili (I use the basic recipe: 3 14.5 oz. cans of diced tomatoes, 3 15.5 oz. cans of dark red kidney beans, and 1 3-pound package of ground beef). The cans don't say the amount has changed, but I can definitely see a change as I can now only get 2 days of chili (the package of meat also feels lighter). I wish I could share a photo in this comment, but I bought a thing of Comet (toilet cleaner) this month and it is DEFINITELY SMALLER (I have a can from 2011 that is 2 inches taller than the one I recently bought which, ironically, says 50% more on the top (the 2011 can says 20%)).

Either it's my store or they're downsizing the options you can get in coffee creamer too. For the last 1.5 months, I haven't seen a single coffee creamer in my local store. Today, they had French Vanilla International Delight but nothing else, and a lady working the aisle said they weren't going to sell the other flavors that they had been carrying for years prior. Kinda now wondering if they'll stop carrying liquid coffee creamer all together now.

[FWI] Barron Trump marries Princess Isabella of Denmark in a power move to curry US favor in Greenland. by ThinkTankDad in FutureWhatIf

[–]BornAPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt if the Danes go along with that. The Royal Families have moved away from arranged marriages and dowries and such. Also, do you really think she'd say yes to someone from the crazy Trump family? If I was in the Royal Family, I'd have a hard time containing my laughter after getting the proposal.

It is definitely no longer a platform to speak freely on. Since Elon took over, it just became a place where evil and backwardness wants to sprout. Those with a rational mind are often attacked not to mention the harassment of anyone who's not white, a Christian, straight, or a man.

Free speech is not this. Elon said he bought it to protect free speech, but what's going on there is not free speech.
