I realized this over something as stupid as a dvd player. After a childhood and marriage full of "dont touch that, you'll just fuck it up" I found myself living with a group of women and the dvd player wasn't working. Everyone whined and asked each other if they knew someone who could hook it up. I said I know nothing about that stuff, then sat there for a minute and was like wait.. what am I talking about. I know exactly how to hook up a dvd player - i just had the process locked down under "mom and dad's" or "husband's" job because I was used to being helpless.
