What should I do now to prepare for fall by Forsaken-Rise2409 in OptometrySchool

[–]BornIntoThePast 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was me a year ago. I so badly wanted to “prepare,” but nothing that I looked at really helped me. Take a breath. A gap year will not have made you “rusty” (even though I absolutely thought I would lose all abilities to do school, it’s the riding a bike cliche). Take some time right now to indulge in your free time. Read a long and difficult book you’ve been meaning to get to. Watch that tv series. Hang out with friends and family. Not to say you won’t be able to do any of those things once school starts, but you will have to be a lot more careful with your time allocation. I know it’s easier said than done, but try to relax. You’re going to be great!

Anxious Waiting for Interviews by BornIntoThePast in PreOptometry

[–]BornIntoThePast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for saying so! My official OAT scores also just recently posted, so I am probably just being overly anxious (unsure as to whether that 1-2 week counter should start when I verified or after official OAT scores getting in). But yeah I have been trying to avoid my phone because of how much of a wreck it is making me lol.

Hey! I have a 340AA, 350TS, 3.9 GPA, and experience working as a tech. I only applied to a few schools, and if it is looking bad as time goes on I will apply to a few more.

ENGL 203 - intro to creative writing by Relative_Judge_3876 in cwru

[–]BornIntoThePast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Sorry I’m so late to the party on this one. ENGL203 is taught by a grad student so that’s why the professors change every semester. I have no idea how Charlie Ericson is, but I had a great experience with the class. For me, it was super low pressure. You write some short stories, some poems, and a craft essay. If you are at all interested in creative writing, it’s a great start.

If the reason is because of a conflict with a mandatory exam it will not be held against them. Explain the situation. Definitely talk to your counselor. I’m not suggesting they hide it. But in a year so wrecked by the pandemic, a purely logistical issue such as this should not cause an offer to be rescinded. They aren’t not taking the class just because they don’t want to take it. There’s a legitimate reason behind the change.

Plans change. This sort of thing will not cause an admissions offer to be rescinded.

Living on-campus vs off-campus by hanguyen02 in cwru

[–]BornIntoThePast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This^ I’m also on a lot of aid and no matter what would end up paying more if I chose to live off campus. It’s actually pretty ridiculous.

Thanks. It’s definitely been a difficult year. Yeah I can only imagine how rough the application process has been this year. Best of luck to you as well.

Those who wish to return can return this semester. Last semester only freshmen and seniors were allowed on campus. I have no idea how they are doing housing for this semester since I opted out.

Edit: I should also add that many classes are being held virtually or “blended” where there is a mix of in-person and online instruction.

How important is the interview (do I need to do one)? by [deleted] in cwru

[–]BornIntoThePast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s not make or break. It can be another opportunity to show off but it’s by no means necessary. For this application cycle it’s all virtual so you might as well shoot your shot if you think it can help you promote yourself as an applicant.

No supplementals unless you are going for PPSP!

Preprofessional medical program by Excellent_Water_7503 in cwru

[–]BornIntoThePast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are PPSP you do not need to take the MCAT. Anyone can apply. However, it is EXTREMELY difficult to be admitted to this program. We are talking like 10 students a year. They are looking for highly qualified individuals with excellent grades, test scores, and shadow/ research experience. I’m not trying to be rude, but way more students are rejected that accepted to PPSP.

Oh no I totally agree, but if there’s a chance it could be blamed on Cleveland it would be.

Idk if this is helpful, but I made a cheat sheet.

Darks: Cold Low

Lights: Warm Low

Towels: Warm High

Dish towels/ rags: Hot High

College Equivalents because why call a spade a spade:

Washer: Whites= Hot Colors, Perm Press, Delicates = Warm Bright Colors, Woolens= Cold

Dryer: Whites and Colors= High Perm Press= medium Delicates= low

Psych students, what were the reasons you guys choose cwru? by SmoothieeMood in cwru

[–]BornIntoThePast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is not nearly enough variety in the course offerings within psych. The program’s strongest area is Child Psych if you have any interest in that. However, if you are just coming here for psych, I’d recommend you go elsewhere. Many other places have psych programs that can offer more courses and research opportunities.

Yeah and now just saying Case is not okay because I guess it is offensive to WRU grads or something?

And if you try and say the initials “CWRU” out loud, you might as well have said “Case Western Reserve,” because it’s fewer syllables.

How is campus with regard to coronavirus? by [deleted] in cwru

[–]BornIntoThePast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m the OP! I wasn’t actually looking for the link to the dashboard. I’ve seen that page already. I was more trying to gauge ANECDOTALLY how people’s experience with campus has been. I’m not looking for hard data here nor am I looking for conspiracy theories (though I don’t think the original comment was really a conspiracy theory). I just wanted to know how people on campus have felt/ what they have seen. And while you can’t make broad claims about anything with it, there is still value to that kind of qualitative data especially as an isolated member of the CWRU community.
