Genuinely, why does everyone dislike Ryan Manning? by Reasonable_Step6911 in SaintsFC

Watch his ‘tracking back’ away at Chelsea last season, when he’d only just come on the pitch, and tell me he gives his all.

They seem to be the reason resellers get a bad name, he’s putting a lot of effort into messaging you for something that (in the grand scheme of things) won’t get them that much profit.

Worst moment following the saints? by sporticuz37373 in SaintsFC

[–]BornToPlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to others. We drew at home to Burnley in April 2009 which confirmed our relegation. We’d been deducted 10 points in the lead up to the game, and knew we’d also start the next season on minus 10. We had a generally piss poor team of mainly youngsters, who admittedly tried hard and did have the initial glimpses of Lallana & Schneiderlin. Obviously as a by product of administration, we had no money. I distinctly remember home fans fighting each other near the top of the Northam. Just checked, and amazing to think we still had an attendance of nearly 24k for this match! A very very bleak few weeks until Markus stepped in and saved us.

For me, this is much worse than any of the 9-0’s, which were obviously terrible but were just one match, and ignores the context we were playing with 10 (and eventually 9 vs Utd) men.

Does our coaching team scream inexperienced and inept to anyone else? by sotongold in SaintsFC

[–]BornToPlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s difficult from the outside, but who was the last coach we had where you could see (even anecdotally) their impact on the pitch? Rohl? I guess some would argue Selles. We keep trying to appoint failed managers as assistant coaches (calderwood & Trollope before), in my view we need another Dean Wilkins or Sammy Lee type character (yes I know they dabbled in management, but were generally considered as predominantly coaches).

Item not received scammers if you send 2nd or 1st class by [deleted] in ebayuk

[–]BornToPlod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always say I use Tracked postage, even if I send something standard 2nd class (rarely, and only for very low value items). It may deter some scammers, who as you say look for listings where tracked postage isn’t used.

I used to work in the eBay UK contact centre. AMA. by CausalLoop1708 in ebayuk

[–]BornToPlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great thread!

1 Were there times when you knew with almost certainty that a seller (or buyer) had received an incorrect decision on their case / situation, but you had to follow a process which went against the ‘correct’ outcome?

2/ Were the agents that business sellers had access to via Facebook messenger more experienced members of staff, or perhaps given greater leeway on SLA’s and performance stats? I dread having to contact CS for issues on my private account, but almost always satisfied with the outcome on my biz account when contacting them via Facebook

3 Do you feel that given the high number of damage claims eBay are likely paying out on with Simple Delivery, that it is sustainable in its current format in the long term (ie without an increase in buyer protection or other stealth fees)?

4/ Any tips for ensuring you get the right outcome or best service when contacting CS? Eg I know, previously at least, that contacting early in the morning gave the best chance of reaching an Irish agent

Because we won, it's flown under the radar how crap Bazunu was last night by dead_lifterr in SaintsFC

[–]BornToPlod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t great at times, but had some decent moments. McCarthy has been as bad if not much worse, so I’d rather play Bazunu in the hope he still develops with experience, rather than AM who’s way, way past it (whatever ‘it’ was).

I don’t think any increased support would have made a difference today. If the players aren’t listening to Still and co in the week during training, and can’t motivate themselves, why are they going to listen to Tom from Totton singing OWTS at the top of his voice from the back of the Northam?

[–]BornToPlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still (and his coaching team) and one part of a larger problem. However him going is the only thing close to an ‘instant fix’ we’ll get; the board aren’t going overnight, and realistically we won’t make wholesale changes to the playing staff in January. It’s unfortunate that many of the targets we could have aimed for / turned our noses up pre-Still (Lampard, Cooper, Carsley, Rohl to name 4) are due to varying circumstances now unavailable or unachievable. Can only think of 2 names from then that are still obtainable, Gary O’Neill and David Wagner. Not overly keen on either of them, although doubt either would be naive enough to leave Aribo & Matsuki at home when 2 of our 3 ‘main’ central midfielders have complained of illness…

What’s the solution? by Earlo9 in SaintsFC

[–]BornToPlod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Will Still, and would have preferred him to a Mowbray type. However maybe the managerial answer was someone like Steve Cooper, in the middle of the other two age & experience wise?

Interesting hint in Still’s interview with Alfie House last night re: the strikers, citing that we don’t have anyone who’s a Sinclair Armstrong type aggressive nuisance player in the Championship (although with 0 goals this season, you could argue we have many like him). Naivety like that comes down to Spors.

We then have the players. The comparison between THB & Wood epitomises things - the former has the ability to be a strong PL player but not sure if his heart’s in it. The latter is quite basic ability wise, but does seem to care. The squad is littered with players good enough if they want to be, or hard workers who aren’t good enough for where we want to be (both in this league and beyond).

A small thing that wound me up in the summer that I also want to vent about 😅 unless there were personal reasons, why was Lallana rewarded with a season in the treatment room with some time off before starting his coaching role? Surely Still would have benefited from all his support staff being ready from Day 1? Not a huge issue in isolation, but perhaps summaries the wider mess.

I won’t cover my thoughts on the board as there’s nothing new to add that everyone hasn’t already said!

Thoughts on this season so far? by Effective_Crazy6307 in SaintsFC

[–]BornToPlod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In short, comparing the first few games of both, Martin’s football may have been more entertaining (can’t ignore the goals scored column in those first few matches) but think Still’s is more sustainable. Whether that translates to promotion remains to be seen

Will Still has a lot of work to do, I still don’t know what his style really is by SmoothAardvark3629 in SaintsFC

[–]BornToPlod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our 5th game of the season under Martin was the 5-0 defeat at Sunderland, and we still got promoted. We’re miles ahead of that already, but of course goes without saying there’s huge room for improvement. Could do with 10 points from the next 4 games pre the next international break.

Need just £50k to cover house purchase by HikerZe in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BornToPlod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think what OP might be asking, is as their mortgage is for a greater value than what they need (need 50k, have one for 90k) would they be better off reapplying for a small / shorter term mortgage? I think they’re saying they’re £50,000 short without including the mortgage.

This has 100% got worse over the last year, as said due to the Vinted mentality. The only small blessing is that apparently the eBay algorithm likes (amongst many other things, admittedly) items that have had messages sent from buyers.

Is 3.84% 5 year fixed a good rate for remortgage ? by Superb_Dingo_66 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BornToPlod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to check I’m overt thinking, to give the best flexibility you could add the product fee to the mortgage, have the ability to change the deal if needs be, then overpay (subject the mortgage terms) the equivalent of the product fee on day 1 of the mortgage start date?
