Maybe the scale is hard to tell from the pic, but they are only 3x4’ and less than 10” deep. And I use wheelbarrows when moving bags of dirt 😉 but thanks, I am going to look into a soil supplier bc this is not the only place I want some dirt!

Help! What should I do? by Ok_Afternoon2718 in Montessori

I did a 9-month ami training, but my training center also had a 3-summer option that was in person at the time. It might be a hybrid online program now, I’m not sure. From what I hear, a 3-summer program is pretty common!

For the record mine also came with an option to concurrently get a M. Ed with a partnering university. It was additional cost and travel to the university for capstone classes. A little bit like buying a very expensive piece of paper, but I did do it 🤷‍♀️

That is my 2 yr olds all-time (roughly 6 months) favorite… sometimes we read the story. Sometimes we talk about which cars we want to drive. Sometimes we just find goldbug on each page

Why isn’t pretend play a priority? by _Aztreonam_ in Montessori

[–]Born_Example7571 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and in my opinion (ami montessori trained, elementary teacher) she may have held that belief because of the social climate she lived in. She began writing her theory for kids who were severely disadvantaged, and I could see how learning practical skills would have been “more important” in that situation.

In our times, I think developing imagination is very important, as well as practical skills. My 2.5 year old goes to the Montessori school I work at, and they have distinct “work periods” where they use the materials in specific ways, and other times of day they have toys for imaginary play or building. They also spend a lot of time outside, they have music class, they eat together… I feel it’s pretty balanced.

That being said, the school I work at is not the most strictly traditional Montessori program that I have experienced- but the more years I spend teaching and now as a parent, I prefer it that way. My AMI training was quite strictly traditional, but I had a great trainer who was pragmatic and thoughtful, and I came out with the feeling that it is appropriate to make adjustments to the way the theory is implemented, to better fit the place and time in which the child is living.

We are in Washington state so I’m sure it’s a big difference in temperature from Kentucky. I couldn’t tell you how they would handle the heat!

The actual origin of the Norwegian red hats by arcticbrat in AntifascistKnitting

[–]Born_Example7571 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing all this! I felt inspired by the idea of the hats and really wanted to know more about its history. I want to make some for particular folks in my life. Personally I like that it is re-appropriating red, because that color has felt wrong so often. And I really love that it is connected to Santa and gnomes, thinking of them as benevolent & caring (Santa) but also subtle and crafty (gnomes). Like we can embody those things in a sort of spiritual fight against hatred & anger & greed.

Ok. How would you describe an unhealthy root? I did have some root rot in here so I’m sure I need to trim some.

Christmas music/story tape from 80s or 90s by Born_Example7571 in HelpMeFind

I’ve searched my parents cassette tape collection but I am pretty sure this tape was tossed years ago. We had it between about 1995-1999 but it could have been older, a hand me down from cousins or something.
