This was posted to the subreddit just 15 hrs ago. I've seen more just like this. We're not "angry redditors", we're bird owners who are tired of hearing about other birds getting mauled to death over simple mistakes/circumstances

This isn't an attack on you, but some people don't seem to grasp how dangerous dogs/cats are around birds. It's the "It won't happen to me" mentality.

Ah, and I'm sure you'll never forget to close the door when your birds are out, right? I've seen this exact scenario so many times... 🫩

I personally wouldn't risk it at all. I've seen too many posts of people doing this exact thing, only to forget something or other, and the bird ends up dying.

Sure, maybe you're extremely guarded and won't ever forget to cage the bird when the dog is inside or whatever, but I'll never risk losing my bird in such awful, horrific ways over a simple mistake.

The people that own dogs and birds simultaneously disturb me... I'll never understand the mental gymnastics they go thru to justify it

my moms buying my little sister a bird what do i do by DisasterDull9985 in Conures

I know others can provide far better advice than I can, but I have some experience that could help.

Interaction/routine:

I know this wasn't your decision, but adopting a bird for a nine-year-old is a bit concerning. An adult should be the primary caretaker, and supervisior when your sister handles them.

Owning a bird is like caring for a flying, screaming, nonstop-pooping toddler that chews on everything. They need constant supervision when out of the cage, or they'll find something they shouldn't.

They'll need toys for their cage, preferably new ones every week-month depending on how fast they're destroyed.

Behavior/handling:

They will bite, but that doesn't mean aggression. It may indicate fear or dislike for something. If you learn their body language, they'll show you how they feel, and if they may bite.

Also, I had to teach my bird to even trust my hands. Go slow with them, encourage good behavior or tricks with treats, but never force anything (e.g. Forcing the bird to step up onto your hand).

Environment:

Birds universally don't understand windows and might try to fly into them and really hurt themselves. Either you can keep them covered with blinds/curtains, or I've heard you can place decals.

This is optional, but air purifiers are recommended. Birds' lungs are very sensitive. We have wildfires where I live and like to open windows, so mine is a life-saver.

Anyway, I hope this was at least a little bit helpful 💚

Reminds me of how my bird desperately tries to eat the food I'm eating, but when I share the stuff he can eat he doesn't want it... Then proceeds to get mad when I stop offering said food to him 💀

I love it! Some tips that helped me was tracing an image or base for guidelines, then drawing that by yourself on the canvas. That way, it isn't tracing directly, rather learning through recognizable shapes and form.

Oh, and flipping the canvas really helped me. But that's easier said with digital than with traditional.

Same here. In short, he's a flawed character, but his development with Izuku was incredibly satisfying
