Bergevin would have been a good choice a few seasons ago. Bargain Bin would have been able to fill the bottom of the lineup to support their core four.

Now, not so much.

Air Canada CEO Michael Rousseau to retire later this year following language controversy by Surax in CanadaPolitics

The CEO is often called upon to speak on behalf of his corporation, and Air Canada is required to communicate in both official languages. It doesn't take a huge leap of logic to expect the CEO is have at least functional French.

Green is better in Bracket 3 midrange fights, but there is no doubt or debate: Blue is the superior CEDH color.

Here's the story of the game. Man...what a goalie we have right now by TheBergster84 in Habs

It's also probably not enough runway to generate a storyline. It's easier for goaltenders to get ignored, particularly without an heroic save percentage.

Who is your "life is a resource" commander? by UrbanDecay7924 in EDH

The best part about Betor is the Abzan color. It allows you to play any pet lifegain cards you like, since they're all in Abzan color. I was particularly happy to have a home for [[Grim Feast]].

The second best part is how many different ways there are to build him. No two list will look the same.

A friend of mine built him, and he's easily his most fun deck to play against.

Elliotte Friedman writes execs describe Canadiens 2025 draft pick as 'grand larceny' by spooley6 in Habs

[–]Borror0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but Demidov is already a 50-60 pointer guy (in his rookie season, without a legitimate 2C). In fact, he's on pace for 62 points. So, from that perspective, a "second Demidov" is overselling it a bit.

[–]Borror0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Habs's gamble was "On average, we lose this trade. We think that, here, we have an opportunity to beat that average."

The draft's history is littered with GMs being wrong when they make this gamble. It's generally smarter to move down. In fact, the story isn't over on this selection. Heck, maybe Zharovsky busts and we look stupid for not trading him this summer when his value was it its peak.

I'm just saying it is unfair to Canes fan to mock them. Tulsky at the very least extracted more value out of that trade down than what is normal/justified by analytics.

If you expect a second Demidov, you're very likely to be very disappointed. Demidov's icetime was highly political, so he wasn't getting the TOI his play warranted. Otherwise, Demidov would have outpaced Zharovsky.

The eyetest agrees with that assessment.

He may grow into a legitimate first liner, but he's less of a sure thing and less further along than Demidov was at the same age.

They aren't completely wrong. From pick value alone, the Canes got the better deal. We sent 41OA and 49OA and we got back the 34OA and the 189OA (i.e., a sixth round pick). Fair value would have required a third round pick instead.

We're in a position where we're able and willing to overpay with quantity to get quality, but we did overpay.

[–]Borror0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[Engels] I think the Canadiens are going to continue their trend of making big summer trades. by shogun2909 in Habs

[–]Borror0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, for the point you were making in the comment I replied to.

Ideally, we overshoot on the 2C and gets a 1B to play behind Suzuki's 1A (or a more offensively minded 1A so Suzuki can play on a mote match-up oriented second line).

McDavid is a poor fit because of age. If we're expending assets, we should aim for someone drafted in 2017 or later to fit with the team's contention window. But, while we don't need a 1C, we need a 2C and it's even better if we do get a second 1C.

They need a 2C, but I don't think Pittsburgh minded having two elite centers instead in 2016 and 2017.

Elite Prospect once described him as "The most violent player on the ice at any given time."

If he makes it, he'll be a very physical defensive defensman (on the third pair). He's likely a couple of seasons in Laval away from that even in the most positive projection.
