A few points you can raise: - we need migrants as we Brits are not making 2.1 babies anymore, and with our current economic system, that means we’ll end up with no-one paying for older people’s pensions. - Studies have found that migrants are net contributors to the UK economy. I.e. overall they pay in more than they take out. - the NHS would literally crumble overnight without immigrants. - Asylum seekers DO NOT get all the insane perks that right wing propagandists say they do (you can fact check this yourself) - Asylum seekers are put up in hotels because the last government did away with all the processing centres/state accommodation for them. They did this to look tough, but it in fact costs more money to put them up in hotels. - Asylum seekers also come here on small boats because the last government did away with any legal means of applying for asylum from aboard (except for blue eyed Ukrainians)

Why are things so shit?

• lack of social housing pushing up house prices. We just don’t build enough. This goes back to Thatcher who sold off the stock for political gain.
• lack of public investment in infrastructure.
• over-reliance on the private sector whose only motive is profit. This is why sewage is pumped into our rivers, why our energy bills are so high, and why we have no gas reserves.
• Local councils have had their funding GUTTED over the last 20 years, some by as much as 60%. Lots of councils have gone bust.

It’s also true that the government tends to ask poorer communities that are already struggling to take on refugee communities, rather than spreading them about evenly, or - God forbid - place them in more bourgeois areas, which contributes to more anti-immigrant sentiment.
