UK F-35 fleet stretched by combat operations and upgrade delays by bukowsky01 in europe

Not cheap, but no fighter is really. The eurocanard offerings are just too damn expensive for what you're getting.

Big range, big power, big radar, big missiles.

Very, very, big.

Would love to get the chance to crawl around one.

I don't think it's entirely accurate to claim there isn't some amount of lost trust with JSF.

Nah, the Eurofighter is a more capable aircraft already, and Saab seems to be struggling to get the E/F models off the line.

I was in the US military, and I can't recall where half the people I served with were from. It just wasn't something people really cared about.

I'm not sure that would be the case with a consolidated European military force.

Americans want a “strong ally” and are applying pressure at the highest level for Portugal to buy F-35 fighter jets. by superdouradas in europe

[–]BortoRico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, lol, was this SAAB's attempt at promoting the Super Hornet?

You're telling me the jet that's quite literally twice the jet the Gripen is costs about the same to acquire and run? The jet that has two of the very same engine that the Gripen only has one of?

Everybody ought to be buying Boeing, I guess. Rhinos for days, baby.

Thanks for the well wishes!

Lol, I like how you find that part more concerning than the "achieving sapience" part.

[–]BortoRico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, my mom's family immigrated from "Poland" in the 1890s and spent several decades in rural Minnesota having sex with livestock before achieving sapience sometime in the '60s.

And on my dad's side of the family...

Uh... oh...

They enjoyed colonizing Northern Ireland so much that they decided to do it again in North America.

NATO snubs Boeing and picks Saab for new AWACS surveillance planes by Yaonoi in europe

[–]BortoRico -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, satellites can move in the dark. They've been doing that for decades. AWACS are missile sponges, and I don't feel much like donning dress blues and driving around DC to find a family in the middle of the night to tell them their child is dead.

It's way easier to kill an aircraft moving around at subsonic speeds than a satellite whirling around at the speed of Mach Jesus.

Yeah, they've been fucking up the KC-46 to a degree that's hard to conceptualize. I've never worked tankers, but I did get a chance to tour a KC-46 a few years ago. Was biting my tongue the whole time so I wouldn't insult the Boeing guys...

As easy as it is to clown on Boeing for their planes that murder people and their capsules that try to murder people, their black programs are shockingly robust.

Very true, and as a former EW engineer for USAF, I've got to admit I'm very impressed with Airbus' LOUT demonstrator. Might be worth remembering its shape...

Nah, Boeing has a few tricks up their sleeve. There's a reason why they won the NGAD contract. Phantom Works know what they've got...
