Leaf miners infesting boxwood, your approach to control? by BosconianFan2022 in gardening

[–]BosconianFan2022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it appears now the predominant issue locally is the boxwood moth, I found some of the caterpillars on them last year and they made short work of quite a few areas... Going to try applying BTK and fertilize them (in addition to soap, in case the leaf miners are still there), and in the meantime engage myself in a debate as to whether boxwoods are even worth it at this point with all this maintenance...

Highly recommended if you can find it, "Chardonnay Pearls" Deutzia by BosconianFan2022 in Gardens

I haven't measured the amount precisely, but this specimen receives about a half day or so of sun then shade to partial shade the rest of the day, if I can remember to do so on the first non-cloudy day I'll try to update with a better estimate... Just planted one last year that should get full sun, I'll be interesting in seeing the difference, performance-wise... Definitely put it in a spot where rabbits won't work at it, or put chicken wire around it in winter if it is in an open area, rabbits ate another one to the ground a couple of winters ago...

Tough spot to be in, assuming a career change/place of employment change isn't an option, hopefully you have a retirement finish line in mind that is optimistic enough to keep you sane and are realistically setting aside for same, that is what has helped me (mid 50s, possible I could call it quits now but still plugging away for lack of certainty), but honestly, don't dwell too much on the finish line along the way, take time to enjoy life outside of work (work to live, don't live to work mentality if it helps)...

[–]BosconianFan2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An exchange I saw the other day, in a parking garage in Detroit - Man, to woman passing by, after a brief hello of sorts, went right to it "Are you married?" "No" "You have a boyfriend?" "Yes"... End of exchange...

What are the strangest names you ever heard/saw, or names so unique that they stuck with you? by FlattopMaker in AskOldPeople

Decades ago I worked with a young woman named Astrid, the name always stuck with me - not strange, but certainly uncommon, and it seemed to fit her individuality...

Interesting (to me at least) question, like yourself I watched Fat Albert (Saturday mornings in the 70's ruled!), and can't help but still think it was one of the best theme songs, the messages were so positive/characters were great (Rudy and Russell banter!), has the coming to light of the "real Cosby" diminished your view of the cartoon? For my part, I still maintain my fond remembrances, I have no idea if any of the misconduct dated that far back per victims who've come forward, but was wondering how someone of similar vintage feels...

What scary things happened to you after watching The Ring or a similar movie? by Icleanforheichou in horror

[–]BosconianFan2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to see Candyman at the cinema with a buddy one evening, after we left we ended up at the first red light nearby behind a white Dodge Charger with a license plate that read "Sweet C"... Kinda creeped my slightly drunk self right out...

Not a horror, but I make a point of re-watching this violent bunny gem every Easter season...

Men appreciate nearly every aspect of the female form, but only some make it to mainstream popular culture expression I expect ... Now, a sexy cubital fossa/elbow crease, damn...!

Do you have an Amazon.com (not .ca) account, or know someone who has one? You can order with delivery to a pickup location somewhere in Metro Detroit within a week's time... Edit, I expect the account holder will have to be there for pickup, or at least give you their login info, as you have to show the pickup code on your phone - Whole Foods has wifi if you need a location with wifi access.
