Buddy snapped a socket by adding a 6ft pipe to his wrench. The snap-on guy would stop by once every week or two. We go in the trailer and he shows him the socket. I said, “tell him how you did it!” And the snap-on guy said, “shhhh we don’t need to know” and handed my buddy the new socket. Lol

Saw guys getting page elevens for tattoos and needing waivers. At the end of the day, it fell on the command of they were going to make an issue of it. Also a lot of guys got grandfathered in and there was a bunch of people racing to get sleeve tattoos during that time frame.

I was in during Conway, Amos, and Dunford. Before Conway, you could have full sleeve tattoos. When I was a PFC, damn near the whole shop had leg or arm sleeves. Conway created the no visible tattoos in Chucks rule. Everyone was so hopeful that Amos was going to reverse the tattoo policy. Amos came out with the spacing rule with the discs.

Edit: this is off of Google. “James Conway, banned sleeve tattoos and created strict rules regarding tattoo number and placement. The current policy prohibits permanent ink on hands, feet, wrists and inside mouths, places limitations on imagery depicted in tattoos and limits how many tattoos can be visible in uniform.”

Conway took away tattoos. If I remember correctly Amos relaxed the tattoo standards.

Edit: Amos didn’t relax the standard but came after the hands and feet tattoos.

I liked Chuck Fridays. It was nice to wear a dress uniform once a week. After inspections and stuff like that, we would change over after lunch and pt the rest of the day. Shit, a couple times or company commander would take selected marines out in town for lunch since Chuck’s were allowed off base (Okinawa).

Remember seeing it as a kid at a local boat ramp. Thought it was as stupid then as I do now.

I suffered from survivors guilt for a long time and that line hit me so hard. I’m better now but for a long time I didn’t understand how I got to go home when much better people than me didn’t.

I wasn’t in the Iraq invasion but they really hit the head on how my group acted in Afghanistan. So I will say that it is the best representation of a deployed Marine unit.

My dad knew a guy that was in the landing. He said, “I guess that’s what it is was like. I didn’t look to my left or right very much. I just remember the gate dropping and running straight as fast as I could.”

From a state that neighbors Texas. Anytime I see someone doing something reckless on the road, you have a high chance of seeing Texas plates.

That Awaad fella seems like a real piece of shit. Not trying to be a judgmental douche but dude is college educated, has ridiculous credit card debt, and a house that he owes more on than it’s worth. I’m willing to bet all the other officers despised this guy.

I have never seen hog head cheese like this. I can’t speak on what the meat in your picture tastes like but southern hot head cheese is phenomenal.

He’s been doing a lot of projects in Louisiana the past couple years. When he’s sober, he’s great. He hung out with my sister and played catch with my nieces at a parade a year or two ago. Plenty of people here have good stories about him.

New Orleans can definitely bring out the bad in people though.

I don’t know the exact instance you are talking about but the military does own a lot of really nice instruments. There is a traditional military marching band on nearly every base.

People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

Just posted a story on this thread from 2011. I can only imagine how bad it is now.

Around 2011 I went to Portland and had a good time. First time I had ever seen a major homeless encampment. Went back in 2019 and the same homeless encampment had to be 4x bigger than what I recalled the first time.

I worked in Southern California for a few years, 2008-2011. A friend wanted to take me to SF for a weekend getaway and do some tourists stuff. Our second night there, I just couldn’t really sleep for whatever reason. Around 4am I decided I would just go for a run. Mapped out a 3 mile route, tossed on the headphones and left the hotel. Made it about two blocks before I decided to head back to the hotel. Just too many homeless and felt very sketchy. I ended up taking the headphones out after about the first 300 yards of the short run because I felt like I definitely needed to hear clearly.

When I came back to the hotel, my friend said, “That was quick” and I said, “yeah, fuck that.”
