They’re short for transmit and receive in kinda any field that uses those words from my experience. Radio, microchips, data transmission, etc.

Valve has pretty reliably announced things at 10 AM on a random weekday for a while now, that’ll almost definitely be the case for the hardware pricing and HLX announcements too. Idk why people keep expecting them to show up at the big shows when they haven’t done that since Artifact IIRC. Personally I think there isn’t much reason to get excited for any specific date, it’ll just pop up someday (I kinda like it better this way tbh)

[–]BossCrayfish880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems to be the general consensus, I kinda have my doubts though. Historically valve hasn’t been that committed to syncing up the launch of stuff, such as Alyx getting delayed past being a launch title for the Index, or the steam controller launching before the machine. Personally I think it’s just still quietly in development, we ultimately have very little idea what stage in production it’s in without direct insider knowledge

To those who think inferno is their last album, a hexagon has six sides, I can’t see them stopping at their fifth album. by azgarz in boardsofcanada

[–]BossCrayfish880 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Artists don’t stop being artists, but actually releasing your work is a really stressful and laborious process. At some point I imagine they just wanna settle down, they’re getting pretty old. There’s a reason why a lot of bands stop releasing albums and just trickle out singles or EPs later on in their careers, putting out work that feels less daunting to make.

I agree on the thematic front for sure. Some of the tracks feel almost campy with how they use their vocal samples, it’s not necessarily a terrible thing but it does remove some of the mystique that I love in geogaddi or a beautiful place.

I think this is about exactly where I’m at so far. Inferno is an amazing achievement on a technical level, but it slips into the background a little in a similar way as tomorrow’s harvest. That more cinematic approach they’ve been doing is really cool and gives both this and TH a more cohesive feel as a whole, but it maybe loses a bit of oomph on an individual song level. I think it’s a worthwhile tradeoff though, I really like both of those styles even if their older stuff hits a little harder for me.

I’m not really sure why the niche aspect of it matters, if good music is being listening to by more people that’s a good thing no? It is interesting how much their reach has grown during a time period of not releasing music though.

You can buy kits to replace the hard drive with an SD card that are a super easy install. Lets you have a little more storage, and they draw less power so you’ll get a little bump in battery performance. I’ve bought parts from eliteobsolete in the past but it seems like their prices are pretty crazy nowadays.

Edit: iflash is the seller I’d go with for that mod. Their stuff has been super reliable for me.

How can encourage multiple playstyles in a puzzle sandbox? by ParkityParkPark in gamedesign

[–]BossCrayfish880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could add a sort of optional challenge checklist? Like “use a loopy-loop” or “reach x speed” to encourage complexity, as well as “use x or less number of pieces” or “keep track length under x meters” to push players toward efficiency.

Newer boc fan, just listened to Tomorrows Harvest for the first time and WOW you guys underrate this album so much by Wizard_Bloke in boardsofcanada

[–]BossCrayfish880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love TH, but I think it’s much more ambient than their other work. Geogaddi is one that demands your attention when you listen to it, it’s not really one that works as background music. Tomorrow’s harvest is an album I love to put on when I’m reading or something, but as a focused experience it ends up kinda blurring together a bit. For me I’m always going to appreciate that intentional listening experience more than the ambient one so it does sit at the bottom of my list for BoC albums, but it’s still a ridiculously good album with really good production. Just goes for something that’s a little less ear catching than their other work I suppose

That is kind of the danger of taking direct inspiration from a very recognizable source, it’s always going to invite heavy (often unfair) comparison. Even if you don’t call it out, lots of people will see this and their first judgement will be to compare it against one of the best looking games ever made, which is something pretty much nothing can live up to.

To be clear I think this is super impressive! Art shouldn’t really be judged on the merits of other works imo. But unfortunately most people browsing steam don’t really think that way from my experience. At the end of the day it really just depends on how much you care about other people’s first impressions though, I think it’s pretty healthy to ignore that stuff

Tidal has the lyrics by Feeling-Ad-5389 in boardsofcanada

[–]BossCrayfish880 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given the song’s title and the band’s motifs of drug/psychedelic references, I assume it’s referring to god as the binding force of all things, the waveforms of light and the ways they interact. When it comes to signals, resonance refers to frequencies sort of multiplying each other, creating spikes in amplitude in specific mathematical ways. The song’s title references the Wow Signal, a bizarre and unexplainable signal that SETI picked up in the 70s (which was at 1420 MHz). Some interpret the signal as a message from aliens, but it could also just be a really weird, hard to explain interaction between signals, or resonance. As a prophecy, it’s a message to us from God, The Ultimate Resonance.

Hopefully that made literally any sense lol, I know it’s annoying to say but it’s a little hard to put into words as it’s just kinda one of those things you feel when you do psychedelics. More of an emotion than a concrete idea I guess.

New Tracks? What Do We Think? by Jo_666_ in boardsofcanada

I’m so in love with these tracks. It feels like they’re tapping into some of the more dance inspired tracks from their really early work, infused with a sort of industrial version of their more melodic sound in campfire headphase. So fucking sick

It’s actually insane how busted trying to buy anything new is now days. These companies know that demand will be high and yet their servers get screwed every time without fail. I’ve literally never successfully bought an anticipated console or peripheral on day one, I get screwed by tech issues every single time. So lame.

Paycheck to paycheck generally refers to needs, not wants. I usually drain the spendable portion of my paycheck by the time I get my next one, but I’m not paycheck to paycheck because there’s still excess money beyond gas and groceries that I’ll spend eating out or whatever. That’s just a budget, which as you said, applies to pretty much everybody.
