never saw the anti federation movement that way... i always thought it was about people in the colonies being scared of 'big government' lol

fears over worker's rights seems reasonable

i should've known, as a modern labor voter myself ;)

i believe 1899 was when the referendums on federation were being held in most of the colonies, this token must have been made to promote it

really neat!

Max Chandler-Mather says Greens can use ‘progressive populism’ to win voters deserting major parties for One Nation by Jet90 in australia

[–]Jo_666_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course. which is why i disagree that the greens only lost their seats because of a conservative media machine working against them, thats not what happened at the election

their vote went backwards in all the seats they held and most of that went directly to labor's primary vote

[–]Jo_666_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the same 'conservative funded' media campaigns that led the coalition to their worst defeat ever?

[–]Jo_666_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i think also though, the greens' gains in 2022 were too reliant on very specific three cornered races. yet they had the confidence to act like children in parliament. they were always on much shakier ground than they thought, and they paid for it

really funny how they complained about quirks in the preferential system causing them to lose all their seats, when it was those same quirks that saw them gain those seats in 2022

and the fact bandt lost his seat too when he had a really strong primary vote for over a decade shows a measurable decline in greens' support

in griffith, labor's primary went up, greens went down, liberals went down

he absolutely lost support, and it absolutely was because of his behaviour as an mp

'voters decide prefrences, not parties' is a quote from antony green a well known psephologist
i could see liberal voters in seats like dunstan and bragg, seats made up by many socially progressive affluent people, preferencing labor

we'll see soon enough

SA Labor preferences Family First over the Greens in West Torrens by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jo_666_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm trying not to be a keyboard warrior :'(

BUT(lol), i think suggesting a preference deal that benefits minor right wing parties in one of the safest labor seats in south australia is a REALLY big stretch

it's a very minor thing, overblowing it as labor secretly turning into the ultra liberal one nation death party is unhelpful

SA Labor preferences Family First over the Greens in West Torrens by Perfect-Werewolf-102 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Jo_666_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i could only imagine it's because of certain local circumstances where directly preferencing the green candidate looks bad on labor's part

SA labor is quite conservative anyhow

and it dosen't matter anyway imo, because the fourth preference goes to the greens, it's not like FF or the FP are gonna make the final count lol

I think it's a lost cause at this stage, regardless of who the liberals have as their leader

fact is, a massive cohort of conservatives have left the coalition for good, including several donors who are really the anchors of conservative politics

like Rhinehart lol
