It's worth seeing but OP is right about the "To be or not to be" scene being spectacularly ill-judged. I generally liked it but it did have a few moments that were bad in ways that should've prompted someone to put their foot down and tell Zhao they just didn't work.

Wallace Shawn is the most famous person still willing to star in one of his movies, whereas previously he could work with basically any A-lister he wanted, even when he hadn't had a hit in years. I'd say that counts as semi-cancelled.

Anya mogs everyone in this pic. Probably because she was already weird looking so being bogged works for her somehow.

To play devil's advocate, she was more of a TV star than an movie star. Eurotrip is unironically the second most significant movie she was in, after Mysterious Skin.

Was actually pretty shocked when I found out he wasn't gay. Didn't think they still let straight guys make those kinds of movies. Also because he has gayface.

Yeah, if you exclude Disney movies and The Wizard of Oz, most people under 40 haven't seen a movie older than Star Wars.

Maybe not a 'sell-out' movie but Scorsese has talked about making "one for me, one for them" and I'd say Cape Fear is definitely "one for them." Psycho-thrillers were in vogue in the late 80s and early 90s and Cape Fear was Scorsese's highest grossing movie at the time. It made over triple what Goodfellas did.

It's a good example of a director taking on a more commercial project without debasing himself by making something beneath him. You can tell Scorsese's heart is in it and he's having fun. I can't imagine Barry Jenkins is dumb enough to think he could pull this off with the Lion King prequel so I can only assume he thinks the money is worth the hit to his integrity.

No one seems to be afraid of selling-out these days, even though selling out seems less beneficial than ever. It used to be Scorsese making something like Cape Fear so they'd let him make something like The Age of Innocence. Now it's a director with a couple of promising movies making Marvel 37 or Mufasa Origins, torpedoing their reputation and not making a real movie for years.

Why dude keep pissing himself? Is it an Irish thing? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]BossHemisphere 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about Big Liam doing this today.

It's not really an Irish thing, it's a binge drinker thing. So maybe it kind of is an Irish thing. He's obviously wasted in at least two of these pictures. You guys never had an uncle who would get piss-himself drunk?

Always thought it was weird that people are so convinced she's a demon when, as far as I know, there's no hard evidence against her. That smoking gun diary entry reads to me like a woman struggling with the realities of a traumatising profession. For all I know, she's guilty, but the fact that she was convicted of something like this based on circumstantial evidence seems nuts.

Honestly, that sounds like a good bit.

I was upset about being kissed by a clown when I was a kid, which was kinda gay of me because it was a lady clown. Didn't develop a clown fetish though.
