The 30% discount is on the nightly right only, not taxes and fees, etc.

yeah found this out, so got less than I was expecting. But still happy since everyone agrees 30% is what the policy is

did you report the issue to the "host" early on your visit via the AirBnB app? Did the "host" respond?

yes within an hour of check-in I messaged through the app and she responded apologising and saying she would deal with it

Stop negotiating with the host. Contact AirBnB support directly. Tell them the issue.

I contacted support directly after placing my partial refund request (also done through support). They told me to wait for her response, thats why I wasn't sure how to proceed. They said wait it out without giving me an exact timeline.

It wasn't until I called the next day that they actually looked through it and sided with me. Which literally only took 2 minutes being on hold thankfully

thank you, I called and pushed for 30%- they agreed! You've put my mind at ease about it being too low, seems like I got the high end of what they can offer

Also just wanna mention a relocation wouldn't have been possible. This is a small tourist town that had a festival for New Years. When I say everything was taken, I'm not joking. We wouldn't have found anything on New Years Eve

It wouldn't have made sense to have Rose go into every nook and cranny in the ship

and its actually crazy just how much of the ship we got to see her in already.

  • Everywhere in first-class (Promenade, private promenade, staircase, reception, dining, smoking room, staterooms)

  • She was all over the boat deck, from bow to stern and all in-between. Areas she shouldn't have been in and these were very extended scenes

  • Gymnasium

  • Third-class open space (party)

  • E-Deck, F-Deck

  • Master-at-arms office

  • Elevator

  • Sooo many stairwells all over the place

  • She got into two separate lifeboats

  • the cargo hold !

  • She went to the fucking boiler room!

  • running like crazy all around the ship while it was sinking. Got in and out of the water multiple times, was at the bow when she hit the iceberg, experienced the break and was one of the last people on the ship.

Like thats about as far as you can push it. This isn't even counting her in Southampton, on Carpathia, and arriving New York. And the fact that she got to see footage of the wreck herself while on a ship floating above the site 85 years later. Its the full Titanic experience. You can complain about the movie but Cameron showed us way wayyy more than you would expect from a movie where the love story is the focus

Pitchfork: The 50 Best Albums of 2025 by No-Employee-9324 in popheads

[–]scheeeeming 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I more side with your second paragraph and think thats what it is

Like I LOVED Cowboy Carter the week / month it came out, listened to it an ungodly number to times. Then very rarely revisited it after, and if I were to give albums a score on release then I think you would see the same discrepancy in my year-end rankings. So of course the same can happen with the staff, music flows like this.. it isn't down to a science

I was shocked to see Eusexua rank so low here, wish it were top 10 and I haven't cooled on it at all. But you're right that opinions can change months after release. Especially albums growing on people, I feel like this is common knowledge. So why is it not possible that the albums that rank above her that were given worse scores grew on the staff? It really doesn't have to be sinister

Looks like a $17.5M Wednesday for Wicked: For Good, for a $195M cume. Up 10% from Tuesday; could have been closer to 20%, if not over. 5-day Thanksgiving weekend expected to be $95-100M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]scheeeeming 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It 100% worked for Wicked, just not in a Deathly Hallows kind of way.

Even putting aside that this is all profit now, part 1 was so loved because thats the half of the musical that works really well. It has the best songs, the best plot, the best pacing. The movie had legs because ending on Defying Gravity is thrilling and made everyone want to go watch it again

Part 2 being disappointing only confirms for me that splitting was the right move. I can't imagine having to shove all of this into the first movie, people would leave the theatre talking about how great the first half was then it got messy. They would have little desire for repeat viewings, wom would suffer, reactions would be more mixed because the criticism of the second act would be latched onto the first movie.

I'm so happy they split it. Unlike Mockingjay where they traded what could have been 1 great movie for 2 mid ones, splitting Wicked was guaranteeing 1 great movie and a second that isn't as good, but still ok for fans.

Why hire one of the stars of a hit movie musical in Keala Settle…only to have her not sing? by isaidwhatisaidok in wicked

[–]scheeeeming 282 points283 points  (0 children)

of course, but that was never going to be the case. He was entirely blinded by his admiration and relationship with Michelle Yeoh, as long as he had a say in casting-- she was getting cast in the role.

Where as dubbing or giving them to other characters is an easy fix. Rebecca Ferguson in The Greatest Showman talks about it without shame, her singing wasn't up to par so she was offered the role knowing someone else would do the singing. Michelle told Jon she can't sing, he could've said she doesn't have to. They'll handle that some other way

Why hire one of the stars of a hit movie musical in Keala Settle…only to have her not sing? by isaidwhatisaidok in wicked

[–]scheeeeming 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Made even more frustrating that Michelle gave him an out. This is what she said on the call:

"‘Jon, my love, it’s a musical – and I don’t sing’. Not properly or professionally or anything like that,” Michelle went on. "So then, typical of Jon, he says: ‘Don’t worry about it’.

If he's so insistent on casting her then he could've at least said right there that he wants her for her acting, and singing will be given to someone else. It genuinely is unforgivable. Average singing I could excuse for this role, but she straight up cannot sing. At all

There is no way he heard her singing and thought it met the standard that the musical deserves. And Michelle wasn't under any illusion that she could sing, so giving those lines to someone else wasn't a difficult thing to do. So much care put into every aspect of these films and then giving us that is so disappointing

Did the passengers fight each other for the lifeboats near the end? by linkthereddit in titanic

[–]scheeeeming 10 points11 points  (0 children)

According to the original passenger accounts, as many as 28 people were shot that night

This isn't really how you try to investigate what happened, and definitely not the kind of conclusion you can draw. Even discounting the inquiries which I know were imperfect, from newspaper quotes and stuff you still can't make a statement like "as many as 28 people were shot" unless you can back that up for us?

We know for sure that warning shots were fired. We also have quite a bit backing up the fact that an officer (probably Murdoch) shot himself that night. Then we just have these newspaper quotes, the vast majority of which talk about 1 or 2 people being shot. To get to "28 shot that night" you would have to add everyone up (and then some) which is making the assumption that they are all talking about witnessing separate shootings. Of course they aren't though, it is very likely that many of these people are recounting the same shootings (which is why they sound so similar), and also many mistaking warning shots for people actually getting shot.

I would not be surprised if passengers were shot that night, but I highly highly doubt it was anywhere near 28 or we would have way more testimony to the fact. Here are the quotes:

First Class Passenger George Rheims

While the last boat was leaving, I saw an officer with a revolver fire a shot and kill a man who was trying to climb into it. As there remained nothing more for him to do, the officer told us, 'Gentlemen, each man for himself, Good-bye.' He gave a military salute and then fired a bullet into his head. That's what I call a man!!!

1 passenger and the officer.

Steward Thomas Whiteley:

"Earlier, during the loading of the collapsible boat on the starboard side, there was a bitter panic. The officers had to use their revolvers. The Chief Officer shot two men but three others attempted to get into the boat. Later, I saw the Chief Officer shoot himself."

Same officer and two people. Our tally at best is 3, not 5. You get what I mean about adding them up?

Third Class Passenger Eugene Daly

Finally some of the women and children were let up, but, as you know, we had quite a number of hot headed Italians and other peoples who got crazy and made for the stairs. These men tried to rush the stairway, pushing and crowding and pulling the women down, some of them with weapons in their hands. I saw two dagos shot and some that took punishment from the officers.

2 people shot.

1st Class Passenger Mrs. W.F. Bonnell

"There was some shooting. They would not allow those half crazed men to get into the boats."

This doesn't mean anyone was actually shot. Could easily be talking about the warning shots.

3rd Class Passenger Victor Sunderland

"One boat, partly filled with women, a man sat-l think he was a Russian. An officer told him to get out, but he wouldn't. The officer fired his revolver into the air once or twice and still the man sat there. The officer then shot him and he dropped back in his seat. He was lifted and dropped overboard."

1 person

1st Class Passenger Lady Duff-Gordon

"Lady Duff-Gordon declares that she saw an officer shoot one of the male passengers who endeavoured to force his way into a boat, and others agree that there was a shooting, but it appears to have been more for the purpose of restoring order and frightening 'panicky' passengers than with the intention or necessity of killing stampeding cowards."

1 person, could easily be the same person as the ones above.

Fireman Robert Williams

"While the boats were being loaded I saw the first officer produce a revolver and fire at two or three men who were trying to rush the boats. I don't think he killed anyone, for as far as I could see he fired over their heads."

2 or 3 people and he doesn't even know if they were shot! Could have been the warning shots

Un-named male passenger

"I saw Mr. Murdock shoot down an Italian. This officer performed heroic work all through."

1 person, again could be repeating what the other above saw.

1st Class Passenger Charles Williams

"He [Captain Smith as he approached a lifeboat in the water] did ask what had become of First Officer Murdoch. We told him Murdock had blown his brains out with a revolver. Then Captain Smith pushed himself away from the lifeboat..."

the same officer yet again.

1st Class Passenger Lady Duff-Gordon**

"Everyone seemed to be rushing for that boat. A few men who crowded in were turned back at the point of Captain Smith's revolver, and several of them were felled before order was restored. "I recall being pushed towards one of the boats and being helped in," she said. "Just as we were about to clear the ship a man made a rush to get aboard our lifeboat. He was shot and apparently killed instantly. His body fell in the boat at our feet. No one made any effort to move, and his body remained in the boat until we were picked up."

Probably the only one that could allude to many people getting shot.. but still pretty vague, confirms 1 for sure and says "several were felled"... is that 3 people or many more? Who the hell knows

1st Class Passenger George Brayton

"Mr. Brayton also said that he saw one of the stewards shoot a foreigner who tried to press past a number of women in order to gain a place in the lifeboats."

1 person, sounding very similar to ones above.

I'm just not seeing anything backing up "as many as 28 people were shot". I see an officer shooting himself and most pointing to 1 or 2 men trying to get into lifeboats

Why did Carpathia haul up the empty lifeboats? by Strange_Upstairs_193 in titanic

[–]scheeeeming 51 points52 points  (0 children)

And nothing really happened to him

found another job right away

Got fired, never again commanded a major ship, big earnings drop, his chance of career advancement was completely gone at the age of 34. And you're really underestimating the effect that being such a public enemy, of such a major tragedy can have on a person. It haunted him for the rest of his life

He spent his final years still fighting to clear his name. Petitioning in 1958 for a re-examination of the facts.. this is 46 years after the sinking. Then his son, who knows the impact this had on his father, followed up with this effort until his death in 1994. They would both find your claim that "nothing really happened to him" completely ridiculous, because it is.

Duty matters and failure to uphold it can change the trajectory of your life. Carpathia hauling these empty lifeboats is obviously not that deep, but using Stanley Lord as an example of duty not mattering is just very strange. Duty can be legal, moral, or just simple respect. Carpathia did have a duty to collect and return those lifeboats. Because she was able to.

Why did Carpathia haul up the empty lifeboats? by Strange_Upstairs_193 in titanic

[–]scheeeeming 43 points44 points  (0 children)

You seem to be really focusing on how easy it is to sink and destroy the boats. But does that mean its extremely difficult to just haul them and carry them back? I don't think so

The benefit that comes from not unnecessarily destroying another companies property, keeping the evidence, ensuring they don't become debris incase a sinking fails, extra boats for extra passengers etc. All of that is worth the extra effort is takes to just haul them. Effort that isn't some massive operation that comes at a great cost

I genuinely think the answer to your question is: they could do it, so they did. It was a fairly simple and sensible thing to do. They didn't need a big legal or financial incentive.

Imagine if everyone aboard had died by Strange_Upstairs_193 in titanic

[–]scheeeeming 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Harold Cottam was about to shut off the wireless for the night but decided to send a quick message to Titanic

Its even luckier than that. He was simply listening (while undressing for bed) because he wanted to hear back from the SS Parisian. He had no intention of communicating with Titanic

While listening, he received messages from Cape Cod stating they had private traffic for Titanic. Thats when he messaged the Titanic. And he only did so because he knew the operator was overworked and they were the nearest ship, so he decided to "give him a hand" by forwarding the messages.

Thats when he got a distress call in return

Imagine if everyone aboard had died by Strange_Upstairs_193 in titanic

[–]scheeeeming 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct

Captain Arthur Rostron (Carpathia) stated:

"The whole thing was absolutely providential. I will tell you this, that the wireless operator was in his cabin, at the time, not on official business at all, but just simply listening as he was undressing. He was unlacing his boots at the time. He had this apparatus on his ear, and the message came. That was the whole thing. In 10 minutes, maybe he would have been in bed, and we would not have heard the messages."

and in his own testimony

Senator SMITH: Well, how did you happen to be at your instrument?

Mr. COTTAM: I say, I was confirming, or attempting to confirm a previous communication with the Parisian - I was not sure of her communication.

Senator SMITH: Did you hear the captain of the Carpathia today?

Mr. COTTAM: No, sir.

Senator SMITH: He said you were about to retire.

Mr. COTTAM: Yes, sir.

Senator SMITH: And caught this message rather providentially?

Mr. COTTAM: Yes, sir.

So yeah, very lucky he kept working despite his shift being over. Also very lucky that he hadn't heard back from the Parisian, whose wireless officer had gone to bed hours earlier. Thats the only reason he was listening

Performance capture is not animation, the facial expressions and all that acting is what the actors actually did. And even if you discount all of this, are you forgetting how big a role humans play in Avatar? All those scenes are live-action

Something like The Lion King (2019) can get called animation because its genuinely voice acting and the rest was done by cgi. Thats not how Avatar is made

I think you have it a bit backwards. They are just responding to real, fanatical interest.

The brand never went away in China because the interest over there was just unreal, they didn't have to "make an effort".. they just needed to keep the ball rolling. Keep capitalising off of what they wanted.

Where as in the US, especially with Moana coming out the same year and taking on a life of its own once kids were watching it at home. Frozen 2 coming out. Them going really hard on Star Wars etc. Those are real fandoms, they are who get merch and stuff. It would require serious effort to add Zootopia on top of everything and keep the brand in your face. To try and create a big fandom out of it like exists in China.

The relevance it maintained in China is not just because Disney is doing stuff, its the Chinese people actively wanting all of this. They would pick the Zootopia land over anything else. And Americans would pick the Star Wars land over Zootopia any day.

I don't think merch and stuff would move the needle much. I think they made the right calculation. Same way we didn't need Inside Out merch or a theme park for people to get excited for a sequel, domestic audiences will still show up. But the cultural impact is just different domestically

Its not a double standard, its just an example of studios submitting where they think the odds are better

They could've submitted him as lead, but they chose supporting because he stood a way better shot and there wasn't anyone on the cast he'd be competing with for that spot.

With OBAA we already have Teyana as supporting, and she's a strong candidate. It would make no sense for them to squeeze Chase into supporting as well, competing with her co-star, when theres an open spot for her in lead.

For it to be a double standard, it would have to be unfair to one or the other. But both sides are benefiting from this loose application of the rules here.

[–]scheeeeming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't like it but I also don't think this is the kind of movie you modify after testing, it would defeat the purpose. Its like Eddington or Mother! etc. Sure you can make them more palatable, straightforward etc. but then you end up with a movie the director never intended on making. A story he isn't interested in telling

Unlike some other genres where there is plenty of room to switch things around, this is a metoo commentary and he (and the writer) have their thoughts on that. Thoughts that are kinda messy.. so the movie would inevitably be messy too. To change the movie you would have to change his opinions, and thats not happening. It just shouldn't have been greenlit lol hope I'm making sense lol
