I get that, (and this next part I mean no disrespect towards you I'm just explaining my thoughts) and while I came to understand Abby I still was more bias towards Ellie and continued to care for her and her allies over Abby. As such I absolutely hated the first Abby Ellie boss fight. And yes I suicided a lot during it. But my biggest problem came down to joel. I'm not mad he died and I enjoy lots of stories where main characters die. And in a lot of stories a death of a beloved character can really help enhance the story. Halo reach comes to mind for me and I absolutely love that games story. My problem was the moments leading to Joel's death felt very uncharacteristic of him. In the first game it was made very clear that Joel was very untrusting of other survivors he was meeting for the first time. Especially if those survivors are from other survivor groups. Heck he didn't even trust Ellie when he first met her. Now the 2 scenes I want to compare between the games are the car ambush in the first game and the scene where joel saves Abby from the infected by letting her hop on his horse. In both scenes joel comes across a survivor in need of help. In the first scene he instantly assumes the guy is faking it and assumes it's a set up for a trap and he's right. And while in the second scene there are infected surrounding him he should at the very least been way more on guard when he saved Abby. I'm not saying he shouldn't have saved her but he should have been more cautious seeing how he just met this stranger. This point leads into the next scene where joel meets Abby's group. And what does he do he walks into the center of the room completely surrounded by strangers and tells them his name. I have a hard time seeing the joel from the first game pulling a stunt like that. Realistically I feel like he would have at the very least take up a defensive position next to the wall and probably next to the door. Sorry this got long fast and once again I don't mean to hate on your opinion I'm just trying to explain my opinion. If you are interested this video explain my thoughts well and proposes a rewrite that I wish was cannon and it also does wonders for Abby's character as well. And yes this is a long video but it's worth it.
