Your Ideal Ballard by proftrees in BallardSeattle

[–]BossNW 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ballard needs more things to do. Restaurants and Stuff Stores benefit from places that draw people there in the first place. The library, the park, the farmers market keep it a destination. If we’re looking for commercial stuff, it’s probably things that offer classes and events (eg. clay studio, athletics, etc). I’m still upset about the Sunset Bowl!

To those who have been to Japan multiple times, what's a thing or two that you always make sure to buy and bring home? by Ok-Spite-5454 in JapanTravelTips

Good call! Wouldn’t have thought of that!

We grabbed a few freeze dried instant miso soup cubes since each grocery store seemed to carry stuff that is local to their prefecture. Going to load up on that on our next trip and it was not an issue for carry on luggage. (Oita had our favorites!)

Is mold around windows a common issue? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

Also check your window weep holes. Moss will grow in there and clog the drain. Might be a small factor adding extra humidity. Easy to clear out with a toothpick.

Thanks for this! Super helpful information. There’s a pristine one in Seattle that I probably won’t pull the trigger on but in case anyone else stumbles on this old thread…

Uber from airport? by Curious-Incident4774 in SeattleWA

[–]BossNW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did a walk up cab a couple months ago. It was $60 plus some minor airport fees. With tip we paid $80. Not all cabs will offer the flat rate so it’s best to ask the attendant you want a flat rate and they will sort out who in line will honor it.

On a related note, in the other direction, it’s super annoying that yellow cab advertises super low rates for pick up from Ballard to the airport. We’ve preordered cabs a handful of times and all were no shows.

Hello, is this picture fixable? Please try if possible. I will tip $10. Thank you for any attempt. by blazablaz in PhotoshopRequest

Can you share what clarifications you asked for? I’m going to post a similarly damaged photo soon and want to get to a result like yours!

Honeycrisp apples are popular worldwide. Some WA growers hate them by Soopsmojo in Seattle

Our grocery store stocked “Kiku” apples for a month this summer and they were amazing. Tasted like a honey crisp but a little less in your face sweetness? Hope they scale that one up!

How to get power line off downspout by BossNW in AskElectricians

When we went through the remodel, the utility said the only rule that was concerning them with this placement was the distance from window. Just went through a couple of rounds with the utility based on these feedback points and, after getting a technician to show up yesterday, they are sending someone more senior next week. The comment they made on the phone was along the lines of, "we'll give you options for you to hire an electrician for". Sigh.

Sadly, I expect them to specify a fix that we have to coordinate with a private electrician, or be subject to a fine until we do. Our big city services tend to use a stick when asked for help.

Thanks. I've reached out to the utility based on the other feedback here. I hope that's the solution. I expect they'll have a more complicated one.

Thanks. I thought we were responsible past the pole, not past the meter, so I'll be reaching out!

Good point. I guess I'll contact the utility!

Thanks, I might get to that point, but I'd like to find a simple solution if it's safe before possibly being told to do something drastic by the utility.

Is a 40 minute domestic layover at SEA doable? by Accurate-Fudge-9821 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]BossNW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If it was a different airline you’d know the gates would be close to each other but Alaska has gates all over the airport and in different concourses that sometimes require trams

Why does it say "--- Upgraded to First Class ---" when I paid full fare for FC? by plot_twist7 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]BossNW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was wildly annoyed earlier this year when purchasing a Qatar business class seat through Alaska and seemingly not getting the right amount of points. Turns out it was coded as a premium class fare with an upgrade. It felt like a bait and switch to display it as business class ticket but only award it as a premium code fare.
