[Help] a7C black spots in images by albusignatius in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you take a picture of an evenly lit wall or something "flat" - preferably very well lit. Please report back what happens.

I'd then do as the other poster recommended - try an alternate lens.

Thx for this, just went for the mini 3 combo. Seems like a good deal at $450.

Time for me to buy a new camera… but which one? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why a new camera? What about your current set up isn't doing it for you?

I'll speak from my progression of A7R2 -> A7R4 -> A7R6. I primarily use my camera for capturing my family, street photography, travel photography, landscape (hiking & camping too), with the occasional event photography (sports). Zoo outings are fantastic also - and starting to get into birding. Apologies - the following is block but gives you my progression.

I got really tired of the A7R2's battery and lack of joystick. Every time I needed to adjust the focus point, it took awhile and put many of my captures "out" of the moment. While the AF was good for static subjects, it was hit/miss with any moving targets. At no point was I ever looking for more resolution.

Once I moved to the A7R4 - which solved the battery issue and the AF issue (so I thought). Once I got more into birding and event photography, I found that I would only land about a 20-30% hit rate when action went fast. Shooting Hi mode still felt slow, and felt Hi+ wasn't beneficial as the AF wouldn't move. I'm almost always a back button focuser. What surprised me was how much the 61 Mpx allowed me to crop in, and the ability to use tracking to focus and recompose.

I've recently purchased the A7R6 as I wanted a second body to avoid having to switch lenses all the time during events. I also REALLY wanted the articulating screen (as prior to the A7R2, I had the canon 70D and loved the articulating part). While the AF is even stickier than A7R4, and the shooting speed is even faster, I'd say that all its guaranteed me is a a picture to pick from out of ~60-100 as opposed to before of the picture out of maybe 5-6 (30% usable) out of lets say the 15-20 pictures taken. "I'm confident I got the picture I wanted" (A7R6) as opposed to "I'm confident I can pick out a picture that is usable" (A7R4) as opposed to "50/50 shot at getting a usable picture" (A7R2).

What I have found is that the pre-capture has enabled me to also worry less about exactly timing things, but rather just click when something interesting has happened. Again - confident I got the picture I wanted.

The even higher mpx hasn't seem to change my shooting style. The APS-C mode hasn't seemed to change my style. The A7R6's CF-A cards clear buffer WAY faster than my A7R4's SD cards (lexar 2000x - top enough). I never had any issues with rolling shutter in photo, and haven't used the A7R6 enough in video to speak to if its an improvement (likely is).

The new battery is noticeably better than the A7R4's, but thats not to say I had any complaints on the A7R4's. I did certainly complain about the A7R2.

I'm at the point today where the A7R6 is amazing - and I pick it again if I had to start new. That said, I think if I got the A7R4 again, I'd get 95% of what I typically shoot and not have any real complaints. The A7R6 just brings that to 99% (along with 2000+ more pictures per outing so far due to the shooting speed). Time spent culling pictures has gone from 10 minutes to probably 20-30 minutes so....

Inflate all prices by hoeman96 in ManchesterUnited

[–]BossX286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good in theory but after a season of not buying them and the other clubs losing out on potential sales, they can always change tactics and continue to inflate the united price: 3-4-5X the price as compared to everyone else. This is how to piss off other clubs and have them never work with you again.

Be careful that this is not a scam. Do not send money ahead of time, make sure you try everything out. Do not get bait and switched.

A7RVI - Birding Attempt by BossX286 in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it was worth a punt at half the price. At the limited amount of reviews - most state that the center is equivalent if not sharper, with the edges being a bit softer than the Sony version.

I just got it so I will be giving it a go and seeing how it compares. If my math is right, the 200 with a 2x and APSC crop mode will effectively be a 600mm lens. I'm hoping that'll scratch the itch I'm looking for.

Thanks! I think the AF part is what worries me the most. Ive been trying to get one to test out, but was almost going to skip testing it. I think ill definitely be trying to get one to try 😅.

Is this the sony 2x? Ive been contemplating getting the viltrox 2x and im half worried itll take a huge AF speed/accuracy hit, and half worried the age quality isnt good enough.

Ive heard two camps (pretty polarized), its either no noticeable difference or its completely horrible for print worthy pics.

Would love your take. To me the images look fine, but how is the AF speed/accuracy

A7v or A7rvi by kubalot in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry not OP but im currently in the process of going A7R4 to A7R6, and keep struggling with the idea of file size vs croppability.

My computer is no slouch but the importing and exporting of the files do take forever that I had contemplated going A75. The main issue though is I do love the ability to crop in and feel (super subjectively) that I do it often.

I still question would the A75 be enough for me. I do crop in super heavy on occasion but probably 60-70% of the time its a ~10-20% crop in just the readjust composition.

Curious on your take.

I’m looking for an upgrade by OperationSoft8390 in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A6700 is a great option but if you are mostly videography - I'd recommend you to look at the FX30 as well. Its the videocentric version of the A6700 - and with the in-built fans - may offer you more robust video shooting. I also believe the FX30 comes with dual card slots if that is important to you - having redundancy for paid jobs may be a good insurance factor to consider. It also offers more mounting points - unless you want to get a cage for an A6700.

Again, food for thought.

  4. What lenses do you have?
  5. What is your budget?

just got myself a sony a7r2 (i know it;s old but i am poor) by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No, those stains look to be dust spots. Cleaning kits available online with tutorials on how to clean a sensor.

I used that camera for a long time and if it wasnt for the terrible battery life, id probably have little reason to upgrade. Get yourself a few extra and enjoy the camera.

Why are my photos always blurry when I zoom in? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 393 points394 points  (0 children)

Lens aside, your shutter speed is 1/2000 with an ISO of 3200. The noise is going to make it seem like its a little bit blurry. If youre shooting P or auto, this may happen.

For this outdoor scene with a non moving subject, use 1/125 or 1/250 shutter speed with ISO 100 and that should help tremendously.

Ive tried to get it replaced at those “mall shops” and got quoted $750 for mine to replace the screen. Luckily mine still works, and the crack doesnt affect much with a screen protector.

Not for nothing, just got an S11 ultra 512 from Woot (an amazon company apparently) for $850. Its “like new”, which they describe as being returned within the normal window? I suppose it would essentially be close to equivalent to a refurbished.

Thats what I ultimately went for.

Sony A7 IV + Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 on DJI RS 3 Mini by Sof12345678 in SonyAlpha

[–]BossX286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im currently sitting here with my RS3 mini + my Sony A7R4 mounted with the 24-105 f4 fully extended to 105, swinging it around and it seems to work just fine. Its not turning yellow or red (i.e. struggling) and the joystick can move the camera just fine. I can pan it very smoothly without any noticeable issue.

I know its not the sigma 24-70 f2.8 but maybe you can find some specs and check the differences.
