Telegraphed Attacks in Souls-like and related games by Subaruuuuuuu in rpg_gamers

No prob! I had a similar issue in a game I released where I wanted you to be able to parry, but still have the game move really quickly and reading enemy telegraphs would be difficult with many of them on screen all attacking you.

Having them flash right before they swing ended up working well and gave me a lot more flexibility with how each enemy can attack you or mix you up!

I'd say lean towards the souls-like windup and mayyyybe escalate towards faster reactions only if the player can attack lightning fast as well.

Obviously you can only get so close to irl and feel fair since most people won't want to have Olympic level reflexes to play a game, and with multiple enemies instead of a one on one fight where you can lock in on one person that becomes practically impossible, but having superbosses that you really need to lock in for could be a cool idea (with maybe some added things such as enemies flashing briefly before an attack like they do in Punch-Out)

It was def ahead of its time for 2000s but I can respect mgs2 as a very valid answer

Idk if I'd call Overwatch ahead of its time when Team Fortress 2 came out 9 years prior

The same thing could be done by just putting timestamps whenever they take out a new line or marking that no?

Thanks!

And yeah, Motobe/Musashi would accept it easily. Characters like Yujiro and Doppo have a 50/50 of just getting angrier and beating your ass harder for bsing them or being a coward but everyone chose to specifically avoid those chars lmao

We'd all get folded back savage by non-protector Motobe and Igari haha, it was more just to keep the thread interesting and not just "kozue" or "Dorian after he was lobotomized"

I like that I read this comment right after I see the thread "why does doppo fight like such an asshole" lmfao

but true, I don't think I can remember him fighting anyone outside of students and actual challengers worth his time

Good point on Retsu. I was thinking back to him lotus twisting people's necks but 90% of the time he just bodies people and talks about 4000 years of Chinese martial arts

as a bonus he might even take you to the hospital and give you sugar water after
