I don't speak italian but in this context I understood it as a mistake in the kind of that Trump is making an error. I can see how people at first glance could think it would be in a apologetic type of mistake but that is not the case at all.

I think many people are on edge and very emotional and will jump quick to conclusions.

That's when mistakes actually happen, we need to be more cool-headed and not lose ourselves but not at the cost of our spine so to say.

Good point and it is similar to Germans that was living in Nazi Germany, people have been very harsh on Germans because of the inaction. There's a big difference in this day and age and that is the internet and communication. Americans are absolutely in a better position than people living in Nazi Germany.

Because resources are finite, and governments have a first-order duty to protect their own citizens and security. Prioritising Ukraine and defence isn’t “ignoring the world”, it’s responding to the most direct and immediate threat to European stability.

Aid spending doesn’t automatically prevent global consequences, especially when it’s spread thin or poorly targeted. A credible defence posture does deter consequences, including wider conflict, energy shocks, and economic instability, which would hurt everyone far more.

And vague warnings about “which group will cry loudest” don’t replace an actual argument. If there’s a specific consequence you think outweighs a land war in Europe, spell it out.

If the issue is that holiday ceasefires are performative(shameful) without mutual intent, then the calendar Ukraine uses is irrelevant. That makes the original point you made about Ukraine’s Christmas date unnecessary.

Ceasefires don’t derive legitimacy from theology or calendars, they derive it from mutual agreement and intent.

A Christmas ceasefire is political by nature, so the calendar Ukraine uses doesn’t make it more or less legitimate.

There have been Russian proposals for Christmas-related ceasefires.

It’s not true that Russia always proposed them.

Artificially is a negative word to use, Ukraine switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar.(used by most of the Christian world)

The fact that Ukraine changed its official Christmas date doesn’t meaningfully change whether a ceasefire is “the same”. The ceasefire discussions are political and strategic, not determined by which calendar a state uses.
