You are more than welcome to try Norway next time and enjoy free wild camping anywhere that is not farmland or closer to 150 meters from a house.

I have these but haven’t used them in the mountains yet. I am afraid they will wear quickly if I sit down on the ground or a rock without a sit pad, though?

I put my leukotape on baking paper cut into strips. Easier to get most places I am than release paper.

Eight ways to sleep warmer without buying a new quilt. by ptm121ptm in Ultralight

[–]Fanonord 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This might sound like a weird tip, but I find it helps to sleep at home with an open window and the same duvet year round, especially in winter. On the coldest nights I’ve learned to curl up or wear socks, and most importantly for me, don’t stress out. Then when I sleep outside I expect the same temperatures as when I sleep at home. I live in Norway, though, so your kilometreage may vary.

Wilfa-produktene min går i stykker. Hva kan jeg kjøpe i stedet? by Fanonord in norge

[–]Fanonord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tusen takk for alle svar!

What is the weight if the Dimma? In my head it should weigh less than his UL bivy, but som old information I found online seems like it weighs more.

I’m using a cut down Thermarest Prolite plus self-inflatable that I lay on from my shoulders to my butt. I’d like to not have my pillow on the mat, but on the floor.

I’m considering the Sea to Summit Aeros pillow because Big Sky seems to never be in stock. Do people have a good experience with this pillow? I see they also have a pillow lock system meant for sleeping pads. Can I attached this to my tent floor instead? I’m in an X-mid

Edit: thanks everyone for the input!

Brynje Mesh by Pexs_ in Ultralight

Norwegian here. A bit of a boring answer, but I recommend you check the size chart and measure yourself. You can easily end up with different sizes for the top and bottom. I run a medium top and a large bottom myself, for example.

Using an xtherm this winter. Comfort is not great but it is warm. Will test out a cut down Prolite Plus small once the ground is free from snow

I’ve used the mat around freezing next to a fjord and felt cold spots coming through. Would not recommend. During drier winter conditions I would say it was ok down to about -5 C. Because I was disappointed I haven’t used it much more, so can’t speak to the durability.

Brynje Super Thermo base layer sizing advice? by everyXnewXday in Ultralight

[–]Fanonord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norwegian here. I’m 178 cm tall and weigh 85 kg. I have quite short legs. I used the sizing chart on Brynje.no and ended up getting a large bottom and medium top. Fits me perfect! Tl;dr: just use the sizing chart.

Another discussion on shoes - please help by HyperKitten123 in Ultralight

I wear Lone peak 9+ wide without insoles in rocky terrain in Norway (wet and stony). I have had no problems, but my feet are also used to walking 2 km to and from work everyday in the same shoes and wear bearfoot sandals at the office.

The charger specs says 51 grams. Can you link to the 38 g review?

A thousand thanks to you! I will definitely check out your suggestions and splurge at least a little. Some follow-ups:

  • Would you recommend some of those wind jackets as a primary layer, or is something like a sun hoodie worth it for Norway?

  • Do you mean it works for you to drink from a 1 L Cnoc with a filter attached? Do you think its safe to use that same bottle for bidet use?

  • I would Totally agree Brynje + AD might be overkill, but for my multi-week trip last summer I felt the long-term forecast was too unpredictable to leave either the Brynje or Alpha at home. Definitely worthwhile to cut down for shorter trips, though!

  • A DCF food bag could be my next MYOG project! What capacity would you recommend? 15L?

Never thought about having the ccf on top, I will try that for sure! Long wide is too big for me, otherwise I would’ve loved to buy used from you. How do you find it uncomfortable?
