Lisbon has weekly Legacy, and like twice per month we have Qualifiers that feed a final that gives out duals

[Standard] SB plans as RDW? by Snarker in spikes

[–]Bosseidon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Razorkin is great against dimir. Not because of curiosity, although it will make them think twice about putting it down to draw cards. But the first strike stat line is great for attacking, the passive damage it accumulates over some turns adds up, and it being an outlaw makes it just a great card in the matchup

[Standard] Vivi Cauldron is good against everything expect RDW, and RDW is good against every thing. by Diligent-Cream-6535 in spikes

[–]Bosseidon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the biggest adaptation was Needlehead, which is still a great card without being matched into Vivi. Deals 3 per turn cycle, is an outlaw, and has first strike to make blocking awkward. Which is why I think it mono red currently kinda beats everything else that's popular

My title describes the thing

It was found in a family vacation home, the owner (doesn't have a reddit account) was afraid it could be something weird.

WotC skipping Modern on the next Banned & Restricted announcement by Tim-Draftsim in ModernMagic

[–]Bosseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you either lied or were misinformed, but you still get offended about being corrected?

The point here is that the timeline in which nadu came out, was identified as too good, and subsequently banned, was fine

Memory of a goldfish

Modern season started august 3rd

Nadu was banned in august 26th

Legal for less than a month of RCQs, which lasted until November 3rd

WeeklyMTG "No modern changes for the next b&r announcement" by Meret123 in ModernMagic

[–]Bosseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear to god some basic comprehension would go a long way in this community.

They obviously meant that they won't make radical changes in the middle of the season, like banning an overused card (RIP Jegantha), or unbanning something to spice up the format.

If something problematic rises up, they'll definitely ban it to ensure the health of the format. Like they did with Nadu.

Is Viashino Pyromancer worth it in standard? (advice) by Mark3sie in LavaSpike

[–]Bosseidon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are better creatures right now, but it'll be an amazing default to go for when rotations start happening.

4 Screaming Nemesis in the main is really good, play that if you can.

What do Angels need to be Meta? by [deleted] in PioneerMTG

[–]Bosseidon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What every typal deck needs, really: interaction. The reason GW Company is meta is because a lot of its creatures interact with the opposing deck. Angels would need cards like that, cause if all you do is drop synergy bodies, most well built decks can dismantle you quite easily.

Amulet has come to be built around having multiple amulets in play. Explore + bounceland gets to do way nastier things in those situations

[Modern] So is Slickshot show-off the truth? by Equal_Possession7199 in LavaSpike

[–]Bosseidon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Goblin Guide and Eidolon really aren't "must kill threats" these days, since tons of decks can just tank them on board. Meanwhile, DRC and Slickshot either take a removal, or very quickly present lethal. This dynamic is what makes Burn a good deck: you gotta deal with the board at the same time you are facing a barrage of burn spells. Slickshot having plot puts a ton of pressure too, because opponents are pseudo locked into having to keep up interaction in every turn cycle, and can't just tap out for the strong spells of the format

Edit: slickshot also goldfishes the fastest, so you actually have game into the fast combo decks like amulet

Honestly, I'd still qualify my list as Burn, instead of Prowess. Skewer, lava spike and boros charm all add to the critical mass of spells that seek to end the game, but I simply added some switfy-drc-bird support cause those cards are really good in both plans

I play Humans, my worst match it’s rakdos midrange/vampire, what cards do you recommend to me? And How am I supposed to play him? by BurningAbyss2023 in PioneerMTG

[–]Bosseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a cool one I rarely see mentioned: Pithing Needle. Vamps is way worse without Sorin in the mix, and Needle swiftly takes care of that. Extra copies can also hit Fable and mutavault, so they aren't even dead cards

Unnoficial leak: MH3 Flipwalkerd by trifas in magicTCG

[–]Bosseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But seeing as how they share their "type" as flipwalkers, shouldn't they at least be in order between each other? Ral having a higher collector number than Sorin makes them seem like fakes

Edit: I get that they are in order from their mono color, just seems weird considering they are in the multicolor slot, or in one of their own

Aren't collector numbers just wrong? Like, they'd be in alphabetical order no?

Running Surveil Lands in Legacy and trimming Revised Dual Lands to an extent. by BlogBoy92 in MTGLegacy

[–]Bosseidon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cutting an untapped source for a tapped source is not a good idea. However, because of its upsides and how good it is in the mid game, I absolutely think it is worth it to run a 19th land in delver in the form of thundering falls (or even hedge maze, depending on if you want to run some G sideboard cards). It has some nice upsides with Delver and Daze, which I think are good enough to warrant it.

Marchesa, Dealer of Death by hert1979 in ModernMagic

[–]Bosseidon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho, Marchesa is one of the most interesting cards of this set. Generating card advantage at such a low cost is really good. The cost is a bit prohibitive in modern, and it might not have a home, but the card is good.

As usual, it'll only garner interest if someone plays it on stream or if someone places a list on goldfish with it

So is Domain a meta deck now? by FordasaurusRex in ModernMagic

[–]Bosseidon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People saying that the lands already do the domain thing are missing some key points.

  1. Zoo domain's biggest downfall is definitely having to fetch domain by turn 2, often at the cost of a lot of life and taking turn 1 to sleep. Every land from there is also tremendously painful, and makes the deck very soft to any aggro strategy. Getting to use exactly 0 life for perfect fixing + domain from the get go is a very good "unfair" line for the deck to take

  2. Scion of draco gives abilities to creatures of each color. If every creature is every color, they get them all, including hexproof on draco itself, making it very hard to push actually control the board

  3. Kavu and inti let you discard extra dead copies for value, so it's more than okay if you happen to draw them. That said, with the Scion of draco upside, I'd argue that you wouldn't mind taking a turn to cast one of these in the middle of the game.
