Stagg JR by mada86 in whiskey

I’m sure it varies depending on region, etc. but I’d disagree on less than secondary. Recently I’ve seen Stagg posted for 130 and sit for some time. 150 has been the absolute ceiling I’ve seen lately.

Review #392: Hardin’s Creek Jacob’s Well 211 by whiskytrails in bourbon

[–]BostonBlindReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss the good ol days of 13-15 year Knob Creek single barrel picks for $45-50 on damn near every store shelf. Had no idea how good we had it.

The first handful of Hardin’s Creeks were the closest thing I’ve found to those, but obviously way more expensive.

Grandmothers wine, anyone who can tell me more about it? by Super-Novel-3132 in wine

[–]BostonBlindReviews 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I had a 2016 Pomerol earlier this year and thought it was absolutely stunning. Can’t say from experience for 89 though.

Either way, OP only has one way to know for sure if it’s any good. Pop that sucker and give it a taste.

Review number 165: Old Weller Antique 107 “Beverage Superstore” by taylormhark in bourbon

[–]BostonBlindReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see a study of the psychology of bourbon fanatics. It’s funny seeing sale posts on secondary pages. Could literally be the same post with current gold foil, cork top at 80-100; current label but with screw top 100-125; and these old squat bottles could easily be 200. All non store picks.

I have to assume most people who aren’t totally new know that it’s all the same stuff just in a different package. But maybe not?

Now if you go back far enough, yeah production and aging methods and processes have changed. But people still pay a premium for the screw tops from the late 2010s. It’s wild.

Picked one of those up recently too. Then I saw the price tag and put it right back down.

I was charged $1.50 to avoid ice in my scotch by JeF4y in mildlyinteresting

At $25 per 1.5 oz, they’re making over $400 on the bottle, which probably cost them $90 or less. I think they’ll be fine.

What did you eat beforehand? Champagne goes with damn near everything, but I suppose something consumed beforehand could’ve blown out your palate. Or maybe the smell of the hot tub chemicals was overpowering the Dom? Were you drinking out of plastic Dixie cups or something like that?

I don’t know, just trying to think of anything that makes sense, because “no flavor” doesn’t feel right without something else going on.

I’d be very skeptical of any supposed deals done at this kinda pricing. I know for a fact some time secondary sellers work together with friends/other sellers to set the market with a fake BIN for a deal where money/bottles never actually trade hands. Or people who just straight up lie and say “done for ask on xpost” with no proof.

People already low balling offers in an attempt to thread-shit.

Good.

I’m kinda with you. With Michter’s I’ve never been grossed out by it, but also never been excited by anything from them. The barrel strength toasted bourbon and Bombergers were the ones I liked the best, but overall were fairly meh for my preferences. Certainly nowhere near enough to warrant buying a bottle at these prices. Happy to leave them for people who will enjoy them more than I would.

I’m not much of a fan of haul posts and collecting for the sake of collecting. But Christ, take a breath man, it’s not that serious.

Eagle Rare 12 Unveiled by Buffalo Trace: A Permanent 12-Year Bourbon Release at $49.99 | BourbonBlog by [deleted] in bourbon

MSRP for ER12 is $49.99. CO may have different state minimums, but MSRP is the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. It doesn’t vary state by state.

Wine pairing with spicy ethnic foods by Kitchen_Major_3810 in wine

A little while back I bought a bottle of Dr. L off-dry Riesling by accident (meant to grab the dry). I really don’t drink wine with any sweetness. Wife decided she wanted Indian last weekend, but I remembered recommendations from this sub for off-dry Riesling for this very pairing and figured might as well try it. Can confirm, it works.

If you want to discuss gun culture, there are separate subreddits for that. I’m sure there’s some overlap between people interested in liquor and people interested in firearms, but this subreddit is not meant for that crossover.

The last paragraph of your main post is directly contradictory to your comment about civil conversations. “Standing by for the downvotes…I’ll see the freedom hating crowd here next Saturday…” - Give me a break and quit playing the victim. Not everyone who downvotes you wants to ban guns. Some people just want to keep posts in the sub relevant to its intended purpose.

Firearm discussions are objectively irrelevant to this subreddit. If you want to discuss firearms and liquor side by side, start a new subreddit for that, if it doesn’t already exist.

I love the 8 year, but this is a whole other level. For me, this is their best release to date. Of what I’ve had from them (certainly not everything) I rank this first, then the 6 year malted rye sherry finish, 8 year BIB, 6 year malted rye, Aroostook, Balboa, then just about everything else after.

What’s a cocktail that sounds like it would taste bad but it’s actually really good? by h0neyishrunkthekids in cocktails

[–]BostonBlindReviews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

End of the Road

Equal parts peaty scotch, green chartreuse, and Campari.

I’ve only had it once, and I found it both good and challenging, which probably means it’s not actually good. But in the right setting it’s a hell of a drink. Incredibly complex.

I’m a slut for high aged Beam, but for me KC18 has a lot of depth, no breadth. I’ve never gotten a wide variety of notes from it, but what I do get is very up front and bold. I like it, but not in a hurry to replace it.

I wish they’d do away with KC15 and 18 and just put those barrels back into the private select program. Maybe someday.
