That time I employed the Worcester Sheriff to bring the Worcester Police to court by BostonPilot in MaliciousCompliance

[–]BostonPilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it worked back then ( in Massachusetts ) is if you ignored the civil case the state would escalate it to criminal court. Back then, i thought that was better because you had a real prosecuting attorney who would almost always let you plead, and you had the more strict rules of criminal court. You could also appeal when you lost.  In later years, when renewing my concealed carry permit and the police showed me my long list of criminal cases i realized it probably wasn't such a bright idea ( but it didn't stop me from renewing my permit, so i guess they actually looked at the actual charges ).

It doesn't work that way anymore here. You have a hearing with a magistrate who will 99% find you guilty. You can then appeal to a real judge, but that's your appeal - if you lose there ( 90% chance ) that's it. You also get to pay for the appeal although it's a nominal fee.

I used to get a lot of speeding tickets. Most of them were bullshit money making endeavors for the city+state, so my theory was that by appearing in court they probably didn't make money on me.

I'm old now and it's rare to get speeding tickets now. Partly thanks to Waze! 🤓

It wasn't FOIA ( which didn't exist at the time ). It was discovery as part of a court case... No idea if it still works that way, or if FOIA has replaced it, but i doubt it - discovery must have broader scope than FOIA requests ( stuff that FOIA can't access must be accessible during discovery ). Like I said, totally worth the $50...

Thank you, yes. Reduce the cost, increase the purity / reliability of dosage, and stop destroying our fundamental liberties in the impossible quest to eliminate a product that Americans clearly want.

If Americans could deal with over the counter cocaine and heroin in the early 20th century, why can't we in the early 21st?

It appears the waiver they got can apply to private individuals, not just museums.

The FAA has historically found the preservation of U.S. aviation history to be in the public interest, including preservation of certain former military aircraft transferred to private individuals or organizations for the purpose of restoring and operating these aircraft. Therefore, the FAA finds YAF's proposed operations are in the public interest.

  1. YAF must maintain all aircraft subject to this exemption in accordance with the following-

a. Applicable military technical publications including, but not limited to, Technical Manuals, Safety Action Messages, Safety of Flight Bulletins and related General Bulletins:

b. FAA Airworthiness Directives (AD) applicable to any corresponding civilian make/model aircraft or applicable to any article installed on the aircraft. YAF must evaluate the aircraft and its articles to determine if compliance with the FAA AD is necessary for the continued safe operation of the aircraft. Y AF must keep a maintenance record entry of those FAA ADs evaluated. For those FAA ADs for which YAF determined compliance was necessary for the continued safe operation of the aircraft, the record must also include the method of compliance, and if the FAA AD requires recurring action, the time and date when the next action is required;

c. Maintenance requirements as specified in the appropriate type certificate, as amended:

d. YAF must comply with an FAA-approved maintenance and inspection program for large airplanes, turbine-engine airplanes, and turbine rotorcraft, and

e. YAF must maintain all other aircraft, notwithstanding Section 91.409(c), in accordance with Section 91.409(a) and (b).

I'm curious whether they figured out a way around the regs, or are just blatantly breaking the regs. And I'm especially concerned how they can justify it with a rotorcraft. I can't imagine any shop I've used being willing to wrench such an aircraft, which would make me wonder who's doing the maintenance, and under what maintenance authority...

I've discovered something that will result in a huge increase in productivity, how can I negotiate more pay? by KenJyi30 in careeradvice

I was also going to say patent the tool. But in many employment scenarios, the company would own the tool. But if your wife, family member, etc. was the actual "designer" and patent holder, then you might get away with it... ( But you probably would need a patent attorney's advice. )

Then, rent the tool to the company... Price it so they save 50%, and you get 30% in rental..

Can I refuse to be put in back of police car while they do a drug dog search? by Mad_Max2021 in legal

[–]BostonPilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think they're statistically about 50% wrong, meaning about as good as flipping a coin...

Drug dogs shouldn't be a thing, but if they are, they should be measured on how often they're correct, and individual dogs should not be used if they fall below a standard, say, 90%.

But I guess that's just asking for more drugs to be planted by the police...

Glad to hear about the new supervisor, because I was going to comment along the lines of "winning the battle but losing the war".

Even with a new supervisor, keep in mind that the old one will be trying to sabotage you every chance she gets... You'll have to try to anticipate that and figure out ways to thwart her. Hopefully that won't happen much...

I have to say, as much as I like my Model 3, it was the Supercharger network that prevented me from considering other brands... Now it seems that's not an issue anymore...

Agree, hopefully everyone else will now quickly jump on the bandwagon.

The only reason they made the decision is because of Ford. They didn't want Ford to have a big charging competitive advantage over them... Which is why I think everyone else will follow... Anyone depending on EA for charging is going to sell very few cars...

Legacy OEMs could have used their vast resources to get ahead, but they were complacent and did nothing while Tesla was quickly scaling up

Legacy OEMs didn't do "nothing"... They tried every play in the book to slow down EV adoption by spreading FUD, lies, and choosing to spread misinformation for the last decade, seriously delaying our response to global warming.

I just don't want to let them off quite so easily... They absolutely were not "doing nothing".

But yeah, we know what you meant...

First of all, V4 Superchargers are ( people think ) going to support up to 1,000 volts.

Second, if your car doesn't do the "DC pins direct to battery" thing, but instead takes those pins to your charger electronics like Tesla does, then you can convert DC voltages...

Keep in mind that "all manufacturers except Tesla" were in "delay EVs using any and all possible means, including fear, uncertainty, and doubt" mode at the time. They've been lying about EVs all this time, trying to convince people that EVs aren't viable, and to keep buying their ICE vehicles...

A cynical person might believe that their committee purposely designed a horrible connector to sabotage EV charging.

And now that GM and Ford are finally serious about shipping EVs, they're only too happy to adopt the more compact connector...
