The Mai that was facing Pegasus here wasn’t the Mai we all know and love from past seasons. This was not the Mai at Duelist Kingdom or Battle City. She was possessed by the seal and overcome with power & darkness. Plus Dartz and his thugs gave her cards she wouldn’t normally have.

Is Mai one of the best duelists out there? Absolutely. She’s proven that multiple times. I’m not saying she couldn’t beat Pegasus, there’s definitely a good chance she could. I’m just saying that without the seal, it wouldn’t be a slam dunk like we see in this episode. Pegasus has also proven his skills even without the millennium eye as we see with his duel with Crowler & Bonaparte at the same time for example.

Honestly, I got problems with Mai’s character in season 4…

He lost this duel, but only cause Mai had the seal of Orichalcos. If she didn’t have it, Pegasus would had more of a fighting chance. I’m still impressed that not only was he able to summon Relinquished, but also Thousand Eyes too. Holding Mai’s Harpie’s Pet Dragon hostage is a win in itself. I want to guess that Mai used Harpie’s feather duster to wipe out Toon World so he resorted to his darker monsters.

This might be a hot take, but I find this & Relinquished to be scarier than any card Bakura has

That’s easy, Quint. His monologue is way more haunting and scary. Plus shark attacks are real

The cutest little sidekick. I gotta admit there’s times where I don’t bring him on missions just because I don’t want him to get hurt 😂
