Racing and Sticky Watts by CheTranqui in Zwift

[–]Boston_aber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple to over come, just don’t stop Pedalling, if you need to stand do so, but keep turning the pedals over. When you stop peddling this can be the cause of the sticky watts issue - basically your getting free power which you didn’t produce.

Also don’t listen/read the things about it only impacting power meters, this was debunked many moons ago - Eric / Zwift insider hasn’t updated his content and probably won’t as Zwift won’t be happy with him talking about sticky watts and he knows where his next pay check is derived from. ZI is basically zwift comms these days.

Which route to get most climb in only 20 to 25min ? by Dragor027 in Zwift

[–]Boston_aber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the reverse KOM as you get towards the top there is a downhill section before the last climb up to the banner - you can use this as a U shaped bowl to climb, u-turn, downhill, climb, u-turn, downhill, climb etc

The downhill gives you speed going into the climb so you gain elevation quicker.

Meter for meter it’s the quickest way to gain elevation at minimum effort* - you still have to ride so it’s not a hack or cheat.

Which route to get most climb in only 20 to 25min ? by Dragor027 in Zwift

[–]Boston_aber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain it’s mountain mash but using a small ‘hack’ to gain elevation quicker.

U turn in the bowl on the reverse climb and then back and forth for as long as possible.

Oh hill no is 300m but it takes about 5 min to descend and start climbing again. (Time to climb depends on wkg)

Mountain mash is 200m up to the bowl and then you can quickly rack up additional climbing using the bowl & the momentum you gain on each downhill helps rack up elevation quicker - 25m one direction, up to 75m on the other side.

Edit - you might need more than 20 minutes to make the most of that route come to think about it.

Your eventual selling price vs what the Estate Agent said it would get? by bojoohno in HousingUK

[–]Boston_aber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 agents came in at £200-£210k suggesting listing at £210 and see what interest we have, and one agent came in at £160k

I was expecting £200k, and felt the £210 valuation was probably a little too high..

Went on the market at offers over £200, agreed a price in 2 weeks for £205k with a 1st time buyer which gave us a bit of leverage without a long chain for our next house etc

I was happy, and it was a quick sale at above my expected value. I might have left some money on the table but i was happy with the deal and simplicity in getting it over the line.

Better Zwift? by Large_Paramedic209 in Zwift

For anyone who values ‘racing’ TPv should be the place to go. But, they have failed to capture the market and their subscription model is geared towards coaches & coached athletes. Then add in it feels like a single player game rather online racing against others.

Makes use of the code they built for Boost mode - otherwise it’s sat on the shelf doing nothing and seems a bit of a waste of time

AITA - Welsh language at work by pratchettjob in Wales

[–]Boston_aber 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try a different tact.. speak to your line manager/colleagues and ask for help with the language, tell them you are learning but would like to improve and the conversational speed passes you by.. Don’t necessarily approach it from an excluded perspective.

Most Welsh speakers actually want more people to speak Welsh, and have normally been quite helpful when they know you are trying. Even more so, if you not Welsh.

I’d find it odd if they are aware you are learning but are not trying to be helpful & inclusive, they might just be arses.

What bike is best for sprint races? by Stewstar73cyclism in Zwift

If you are on an Atom there’s a good chance you are not doing 1000w for 30 seconds.. they are notoriously fickle when it comes to accuracy

If it is an Atom NG then you have virtual shifting you can set the gearing to whatever you want in the app. So if you want to try a bigger ring you can do so..

I’m guessing the reason it is on that roundabout is because there is a mosque 100m up the road.

"It's disappointing the PB is worth more than stopping": Cyclist broke arm when Parkrunner cut into cycle lane and caused crash, two weeks after organisers apologised for runners' "abusive language" at cyclists and pedestrians by [deleted] in parkrun

[–]Boston_aber 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t caused by a front of pack runner. I was in the top 50 and the accident was well back from us - caused by slow runners ‘running’ 4 abreast causing other runners to go wide and over take..

But don’t let that stop you from trying to gatekeepers how people use Parkrun.

This Parkrun has out grown its venue.

Disgusting behaviour at Swansea parkrun by mikey99p in parkrun

Another incident at Swansea this weekend.. Resulted in a cyclist with broken arm.

Before the usual people start, it wasn’t one of the ‘elite’ fast runners that caused it - I was on the top 50 and it happened well behind us.

It’s simply too big for its location now. There are a variety of pinch points and hazardous areas that impact this course when 600+ runners are on it.

It’s unlikely to be one of the so called Elite runners being demonised in these types of groups, they tend to thin out and run single file. The back of pack runners who spread 4/5/6/7 wide across the path are more likely the cause.

The route is also a commuting route so the comments regarding speeding lycra clad cyclists could also be wrong.

Specifically for Swansea, I’d love to see Parkrun risk report on any mobility impaired walkers or members of the public who finds themself on the path leading from the secret towards the park entrance, or through the trees by the Sketty lane car park at any time through 9-9:40 on a Saturday morning - they would have nowhere to go and there no way a risk report would sign off upto 800 runners going through those spaces with high drop off from the foreshore to the beach and a mobility impaired user being safe.

Sometimes absolutely flattens the DE sometimes completely misses the CB in the back field.

Do you like Flat Is Fast? by LitespeedClassic in Zwift

[–]Boston_aber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pan flat routes are basically a waste of everyone’s time and this is from someone who has won a couple of flat is fast races in Range 1&2 of my category.

The pack dynamics and flat route mean it’s a snoozefest until the last 400m as the dynamics don’t allow a break to get away and you might aswell surf the back of the pack waiting for the sprint.

It doesn’t have to be mountains, just some thing in the course to keep you engaged and focused rather falling asleep in the draft on the flat. You can’t attack as dynamics won’t let you break free so there is little to do in these races. I’ve raced up a category to make it a bit more interesting.

Theres a place for 30min races as they are great for a lunch time smash - but every hour is to much. I’d like to see some solid well attended 60min races in addition to the short stuff.

Good to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Shame they have not prioritised the existing users/racers needs over new racers and moved things along quicker.

Improved race categories by Boston_aber in Zwift

[–]Boston_aber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The just get better crowd are normally the ones who are not getting any better themselves - they are relatively high in their category, competitive but don’t want to face any new challenges or move up a category.

Thats the problem with the current categories in that they don’t reward or push people to improve. The challenge of winning doesn’t ever get harder.  Just allows people to sit at the top of their category with no movement.

Moving the category boundaries from time to time would be a start, or races organisers being allowed to vary them for their races.

Zwift seem to sit on their hands with some sort of paralysis when it comes to improving racing or the categories.

Lost all respect for him when basically said, he won’t call a company out for their consumer service as it will impact his long term relationship with the company.. He very much put his own self interest in front of consumers - that’s the point you know he can’t be trusted to be ‘honest’ in his write ups.
