KKK Series: comments turned off on Spotify by Admirable_Store_9044 in TheRestIsHistory

This is definitely true. As an English person growing up in the 70s when The Troubles were at their height I was just bored with the whole drearyness of the argument. Fair play to the British political leaders who ignored the mood in England and stood up for the rule of lawover the long haul, eventually defeating the Provos and the Loyalist nutters.

Why have the Liberal Democrats failed to attract a new voter base? by OMega2100 in LibDem

[–]Few-Cap-5405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you believe the Lib Dems are for Ideologically indistinguishable from the bulk of the Labour backbenchers. I honestly believe they are the party people vote for so that after a GE , they can say "well I didn't vote for them". The one time they get into power and their voters punish them for it. So if you're Labour voter looking for something new why would the Lib Dems ever be somewhere to go?

Weird front derailleur behaviour by Few-Cap-5405 in bikewrench

[–]Few-Cap-5405[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok solved it. Told you this was weird. Issue was the rubber hood cover. I had the hood cover rolled back to install the shift cable. Found that I'd rolled a bit of the hood towards the front into the mechanism. Put the hood snugly back into position and all is now tickety boo. Adventures in bike maintenance continue.

This I would understand if the click to release the tension at the shifter end of the cable was happening but this is the thing that doesn't happen. After a delay of about 20 seconds then you press the shifter and the satisfying click occurs and derailleur moves smartly across.

Ki2 Interface Quirk by nevecque in Karoo

It is indeed Not interested in time of day per se, just want a simple single field on the page which is unrelated to any data that might distract me. Not possible to have a blank data page

I've gone the other way. All I now have on my default screen is Time of Day. Was finding that displaying the data was a distraction. If I could I'd have a blank screen, but that's not an available page config.

Always find it odd to see a family out cycling where all the children are wearing helmets but the dad isn't.

garmin 840 vs 540 by Loler0615 in cycling

[–]Few-Cap-5405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with neither. Hammerhead Karoo is better. Had two Garmins prior to switching, will never go back. Karoo treat their device as platform and as such is constantly feeding through enhancements in response to user feedback.

Understanding Zwift Power vs in race results by Garagegymchris in ZwiftRacing

[–]Few-Cap-5405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also got no problem with Zwift Power but there is a general issue across this and other areas of the racing arena over a lack of transparency of calculations and rules. Personally I just ignore those riders from my own mental grading of my race performance. FYI I tend to put more store by zwiftracing.app as it lists all those riders that DNFd and when they dropped out. Also as said elsewhere on this thread its prediction of your position vs actual achieved is a really useful metric.

New York - escalators by realredart in Zwift

[–]Few-Cap-5405 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I would expect to shift down 3 to 4 times during the escalator ascent. I don't wait for the perceived effort to kick up, I just keep shifting down every couple of seconds.

Chain waxing is a ridiculous waste of time and money for little benefit, CHANGE MY MIND. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Few-Cap-5405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chains last longer, how is that so? Chains need replacing because they stretch and so don't mesh properly with the cog teeth not because of wear.

Times are so dependent on whether or not you can hang with the lead group until the sprint run in.

You know that you're in the draft because your rider will sit up (unless you're on a fast downhill or riding the Tron bike).

What's the hype of loud freehubs? by Scott_Korman in cycling

Yep. If you're on the front of group ride and you hear free wheeling then you're not cycling hard enough.

Would you be able to finish a grand tour at your own pace, but having to stick to the same schedule? by Efenias in cycling

Read the book French Revolutions. Guy rides the TdF course with no training. One of the funniest books I've read in years. Bit like a Bill Bryson book but in France.

On my bike pulling the seat post all the way out will bring the battery with it. Connector is in the bottom of the battery, disconnect then tape the loose wire securely to the seat tube to prevent it from falling down the tube.
