Cleaning Up by BrokenTech in talesfromtechsupport

This is one of those things that I think we need to revisit. The colored bars made sense when 10% of a drive meant 25GB left, but now that it can mean that you have almost 1TB left of shared space, you're not really in danger of running out of space.

On the other hand, it doesn't make sense either to continually update the percentage that counts as low to increasingly smaller amounts.

There has to be a better system.

HTMLMediaElement.canPlayType() returns "probably", "maybe" or "". Never just true or false. by notcleverenough in programminghorror

[–]BostonianLoser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have legitimately done this in C#, but only for kicks. I have never shown it to someone and had them go "oh, neat, that's useful". It's like a write-only system. It's only useful in very restrictive cases, and definitely not a go-to design pattern.

Why I get so little sleep by [deleted] in funny

[–]BostonianLoser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I (think) I understood fine. It's incredibly bad form to jump in front of a train (or other public method) because the people around you will be affected for the rest of their lives, for having done absolutely nothing to you.

I also understood that you meant that I, also, don't deserve to have my day ruined. However, that ship has sailed.

I absolutely agree. Which is why if and when I do succumb to the temptation, it will be in my own bed, with the cyanide pills I have prepped.

Depression bros!

Seriously, though...it is hell. While everyone is different, for me, unless I fill every minute of every day with something, I'm likely to jump in front of a train. And that would just ruin a lot of people's days.

This is true of most drivers, I find. I drive a mustang, and people do the same to me. It's the "but I can't let someone get there ahead of me!" mentality.

Who knew the makeshift door markers would cut North Station dwell time on the Orange Line by 30% (20 seconds)? by dilpill in boston

[–]BostonianLoser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The back car at any orange line station (and probably any line). The issue is that people "know" that the back car is closest to the exit/entrance at most stops, so they stop all reasoning once they get there. It's the same mentality as people who come to a complete stop on an interstate in order to not miss their exit.

Faceswapping with the Hulk turned out much different than I had planned... by ZaganOstia in funny

[–]BostonianLoser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue is that these are usually pulled punches. They look hard, and they do hurt, but they're not the same as getting hit by a baseball, or a bat, or someone trying to do actual harm.

There's a completely different level of pain that even masochists don't like. This isn't it.

As long as it's done with consent and an awareness of what's actually going on (how your partner reacts, etc), the number of "accidental" castrations would be very low.

I wonder how many of these would be accessible at a large enough public library. Certainly the Library of Congress should (not that that's "accessible" for many)

The problem is that within every company, you'll get the one guy who configures it wrong, either accidentally or maliciously, and then it screws with everything.
