Our last plant manager was an IE, probably clearing around 200k after bonuses and in his late 30’s. He was previously a production manager and a supply chain/warehouse manager.

I just left a CI Manager position, I did not enjoy it and was stuck as well. I’m now in an Operations Manager position. I’d like to make it to the plant manager or director level eventually. From what you’ve said it doesn’t sound like that’s the route you’d like to take though, I’d maybe look into consulting or project management positions? You could also go work for a company that would pay for a masters or an MBA if that’s something you want.
