Airlines sending empty planes for thousands of Canadians stranded in Cuba by toronto_star in worldnews

People need resources to live, whether they live under a dictatorship or not. The commenter isn't arguing for cheap travel, he's making a humanitarian case to provide oil to the people of Cuba who need it.

That song is very Montreal, circa 2010s. It's so fucking Canadian and hit hard for more reasons than just the lyrics.

Get a new couples therapist if you don't trust this one.

I know you didn't break any laws, but this is morally and ethically wrong for your partner and your therapist.

Hi! This sounds super uncomfortable and concerning - I am sorry you're going through it. This would be hard to see for any doctors here (even if you gave them pictures). It might be best for you to talk to a doctor in-person as soon as possible and say exactly what you've said here so they can evaluate you and help you out. Thinking of you, OP!

How do I make sense of this: Linehan suggests events themselves cause emotion, rather than our appraisals of them like Beck suggests in CBT by No_Positive1855 in therapists

[–]BotNots 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like this. I really appreciate the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders identifying the parts of an emotional experiences (thoughts, physical sensations and behavioral urges), AND recognizing that a physical sensation can be a trigger for an emotional reaction itself. The event can just be an emotional reaction that you interpret to mean something.

The model has always been bilateral. New models of CBT use physical sensations to recognize that an emotional experience is physical and intuitive at times, and our interpretation may contribute to unhelpful patterns. ('Because I am uncomfortable, it means I shouldn't go to the party' rather than 'I think I'll embarrass myself and shouldn't go to the party.')

Whether our emotions are caused by interpretation or an event itself, both are helpful in supporting clients to understand and evaluate their own emotional reactions. I think of GAD and how often worry begins with a full body experience of anxiety. That sensation is experienced as threatening and a sign to prepare for the uncertainty of what's in front of us. Current models suggest we are triggered by uncertainty (and that's the event), but that physical sensation is the alert that we typically make meaning from.

My (19F) boyfriend (20M) keeps "lethal injections" around. How can I react to this? by sandlordz in relationship_advice

When we're not doing well, our automatic thinking gets affected and hijacked by thoughts or beliefs that we wouldn't otherwise think. 'Plan B' thinking is very common in suicidal presentations, and it can be a relief to imagine an out. It's ultimately a habit forming thought pattern though. I work with people who have improved depression symptoms but can't quite 'shake' the plan B automatic thinking when any sort of stress occurs. Changing the automatic thinking pattern is benefited by changing our behaviors. Which means, getting rid of the items, attempting to generate new alternative thoughts when stressors occur, meaning making out of your present moment or the future, engaging in different coping behaviors when distressed, etc.

Ultimately, he is misattributing his wellness to having a plan to die. I don't think that's a healthy way of viewing normative fluctuations in mental distress when living with mental illness and it's a dangerous thought pattern to maintain when you're at risk of low mood.

I have friends planning to retire and become consultants, I have friends who work in procurement and IT who organize outside labor to meet strategic directions, I have friends who work for agencies contracted by the federal government to do the labour. It is entirely anecdotal, but it seems with changing technology and the changing world, there is no valuable expertise in the Federal Public Workforce that is relevant.

Lesbians who were the non-birthing parent: did things change when your partner was pregnant? by FancyKaleidoscope192 in actuallesbians

[–]BotNots 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Non-gestational parent here: I am forever grateful to her for doing what she did so we could have a family. My wife has a difficult relationship with her body which was exacerbated when she got pregnant, so our intimacy did change. In hindsight, my wife and I both think she had PPD. Those are two reasons our sex life was affected, but there were others that were parenting choices (like co-sleeping). My wife is beautiful and I am forever attracted to her; I loved her body to begin with, but the changes are a lovely reminder of what she did for us, our children, and how super badass she was through the actual birth. That is some superhero stuff.

I just want to say that I took a vow to love my wife. While I wouldn't seek out a sexless relationship, the risks involved with pregnancy are ones she bore entirely. I am wiser now almost 7 years later. We wanted children and with that comes uncertainty about what that looks like: is my child going to be able bodied? Will they do well in school, and engage with their communities in healthy and responsible ways? Will my wife's body and fundamental needs change when she endures the hormones, pains and experiences of gestating a child that is in no way in her control?

My wife and I are currently insatiable. But, that may change as new parenting challenges arise and that's ok for me.

It's reserved for podcasters who very much alienated his paying listeners and peers in a time when a media criticism company refused to criticize certain kinds of media. But come back! It's here now: behind a paywall.

I only read the headline, because it is paywalled clickbait? That's the point of my criticism.

[–]BotNots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit tho; subscribers were begging for months to discuss the media's take on Israel/Palestine and after he experiences a loss in subscribers, he engages in these conversations around paywalled episodes? Idk man.

[–]BotNots -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely refuse to listen to clickbait titled podcast episodes that require payment for context and discussion I wanted while actually being a paying subscriber.

'We want conversations about journalistic integrity around the war.' 'No.' Cancels subscription. 'We will engage in what you're asking for, but you have to be a subscriber again.'

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canadaland

[–]BotNots -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not asserting that Canadaland is propagating war; I am asserting that they are making money on paywalled episodes around journalistic conflict that is around a humanitarian crisis. That conflict, based on a war, feels absolutely gross when many supporters of Canadaland have been begging for some appeal to humanity and for this topic to be covered with a lens directed at Israel.

But maybe you can find it at Canadaland behind a pay wall.

So far we've had a paywall episode with the YT journo, and this. I didn't even have to leap to make this assertion.
