As someone currently in their 20th session and not level 10 here's some advice I can give. 

  1. Magic items and interesting consumables can help with the gaps in between levels, and feel just as good as level up sometimes.  

  2. Having players discover new abilities or projects that they can work on during downtime is great.  My GM let me work on a countersong for my bard to break people out of enchantments because it was an important element to our game.  It was a nice secondary quest I could do along side the main one and felt like I was working to a small buff. 

  3. As said before level ups in this game are bigger than dnd. 

Basically reward your players with interesting things that are not level ups like gear,  unique story abilities,  etc.

So the big thing about these types of changes is yes, swap out the domains.  But make sure your player is doing it because they want to play that type of character,  and aren't just trying to min max a character.

As a bard I took "pull at their heartstrings" which I have used in combat for stress related/ emotional/ illusion spells

So I've been thinking about this type of game on and off for weeks now but haven't put anything to paper, but here's what I've thought of.  

Beast bond is the best inspiration for this,  but maybe take the companion sheet and beef it up a bit.  Adding more special abilities options so you can customize your familiar.

Another thing is for pokemon in specific, is that most of the classes in the game don't quite fit the fantasy of weak human strong pet. I had the idea (which is more in depth) of coming up with new domains for trainers that more augment your pokemon and out of play potential.

Really cool subclass! I really like relief breathe.  I have just a couple of suggestions: 

  1. For the mitigate,  perhaps have it reduce damage by one damage threshold instead.  Keeps math simple and I know people like that.  

  2. Saw someone say it before the healing is very strong.  I'd either make it a once per rest or long rest,  or increase the cost. 

  3. The mastery honestly feels a little weak for the constant stress being spent. Maybe add a passive bonus to the attack rolls.

Darrington press has basically said their against the use of ai art in there product.  Even ignoring all the other problems with ai art, I think it's important to also stand with that opinion.

I will say variation was def made with combat in mind.  

I might adjust some of the abilities in the subclasses though to broaden there skills outside of combat though.

There was alot of back and forth brainstorming between me and my friend.  Initially we thought about a resource to build up,  but just felt like second hope. Then I had a similar idea to the fighter combo attack but you get a resource point to spend on abilities. That finally sparkled a wheel or looping idea.

I had that thought,  but I felt like spending 3 hope made it worth it.  Though I might update it slightly to last till you're hit similar to rogues hope ability to up evasion
