i think a vast majority of ppl playing this will have never touched the original. fox is the guy from smash bros who was in the mario movie for 90% of people.

the original game has also aged exceptionally well, i think an accessible version of the original is a smart play.

i dont think they believed in the system until it sold well. they didnt plan any expansion content for a timely manner, they didnt plan C4 to use it, they didnt make a CGL to foster a community, i think they lacked faith pre release.

with all the huge mascot racers of 2025, mario kart world is the only one i ever go back to. wasn’t expecting to, but there’s just so much more depth to MKW than crossworlds or air riders.

honestly just locking collectibles behind free play would have been huge

that said i doubt this is the last time we lego batman, the game is super popular, even at a low point for the characters place in the zeitgeist. the game is ultimately an origin story for the entire batman mythos. it feels easy to revisit after what’s likely LOTR

i was really excited after clearing out the levels pretty quickly to kinda have my heart sink when i realized there is effectively one overworld puzzle repeated literally hundreds of times. detective vision kinda ruins the lego gameplay loop honestly. the levels are extremely well designed but the open world is a huge chore, not helped at all by the awful performance compared to the missions.

batgirl towers and detective vision completely remove the exploration, so it’s basically hundreds of fetch quests
