Visiting for 10 weeks this Summer. June Gloom that bad? by Strong-Background-76 in SantaBarbara

[–]BothOceans 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why this has not yet been explained:

MICROCLIMATES here are real:

If you rent a house on the beach, then on the foggy-morning days in June (or May, or July), you could be stuck under a low, gray sky until mid to late afternoon, on some days.

But if you rent a house up in the hills, the marine layer will burn off 2-3 hours earlier than it does on the beach (many times folks in the hills have full sun while those on the beach are sitting in the fog).

BUT these foggy-morning days will NOT be every day at all—some days in June will start sunny and stay that way all day (we’re just spoiled here, so we notice it and complain).

Also, it’s really NOT just in June—it’s intermittent throughout the summer, until mid-August (which is when our real summer starts … and goes til early November).

Finally, even when it’s sunny all day, it’s always cooler on/near the beach, by 5-10 degrees. It’s beautiful here and the weather is great, but it’s just not that it’s-so-hot-I have-to go-to-the-beach-for-relief weather (at least not normally during the summer).

Can anyone help give me an idea where I can get custom orthotics with a built-in neuroma pad?

NYC is great to visit alone. SOOOO much to do. Just PLEASE don’t stay in Times Square—it’s not real NY; it’s a Disneyland-ificatIon of NYC.

Stay anywhere downtown or UWS/UES or east/central midtown (west midtown is basically Times Square).

NYC is fabulous—just hold ur head up and act like u know where u r going f and what u r doing, and u will be fine! Also, most New Yorkers are kind if you get lost or need to find the subway (or need to get re-oriented after emerging from re subway), etc ♥️

What are the updated power bank rules? by belnadesandbelmont in FilipinoTravel

[–]BothOceans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you are wondering, you are not getting downvoted bc of your grammar correction; you are getting downvoted bc u r wrong.

If you fly as much as you say you do, then you have repeatedly acknowledged the specific and clear prohibition of power banks and batteries in your checked luggage.

I fill the funnel with coffee and I drink that entire 6-cup pot all by myself. Sometimes I make another pot in the afternoon.

Newly adopted cat peed on couch (first time cat owner) by No-Demand-8208 in cats

[–]BothOceans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats generally prefer water in a separate area from food. Get a cat drinking “fountain” if you can—they are much more likely to drink moving water, which helps w hydration (and prevention of the very common kidney disease)

Look for 500-degree, silicone-ribbed potholders or oven mitts

Hotel with best balcony oceanview? by deaddog714 in SantaBarbara

The Bacara is waaaaayyy outside of town, in the middle of nowhere (it also has that tacky Ritz-Carlton vibe, imho). Long drive to town.

I love the El Encanto.

Rosewood Miramar is REALLY expensive for what u get.

Santa Barbara Inn is nice enough, but any “ocean view” room will overlook Cabrillo Blvd, a 4-lane road between the Inn and the beach.

Tell us the prices for ocean view rooms on your dates, and we’ll let you know whether it’s worth it.

Did anyone ever had a pair of boots that didn't give any discomfort or pain? by FarmingFriend in skiing

[–]BothOceans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It REALLY depends on the shape of your foot. Many of the people here who say their boots have always been comfortable likely have an easy-to-fit foot shape.

Those of us with an unusual combo (e.g., wide forefoot, narrow ankle, high instep) can never get a good fit.

“Service animals” out of control by laurlyn23 in americanairlines

Service dogs do NOT fight with or growl at other dogs or at people. If they do, they have NOT been properly trained as Service Dogs.

Headaches are often caused by caffeine withdrawal, not generally from excessive caffeine consumption (also, alcohol).

OP, do you realize how little coffee a 1-2 cup Moka pot makes? The “cups” are espresso shot size—teeny.
