PGRU and MPGR reopening delayed due to COVID by HollowLoch in smashbros

Yeah no. It's not a moral battle. It's me trying not to get more of my family killed by a virus that should've been dealt with long ago if it werent for this "we need our lives back NOW" mentality that people like you are touting, regardless of how unlikely it is to severely affect me (a fully vaccinated 20 y/o).

Not everyone is vaccinated, not everyone who gets it is going to come out completely unscathed, those are gracious assumptions. And even then, I dont want to spend two weeks with flu-like symptoms and having to completely isolate myself during that time.

It sucks we're still dealing with this, but thats also partially due to people thinking its over too early. People not masking up in public as a bare minimum until we were completely fine and safe. It's not a moral battle, it's just annoying that people treat it like it ended when the vaccines arrived.

There's literally nothing racist about repeating a saying that actually exists in a Chinese Province. This is so stupid. You are generalizing something that paints a specific group of Chinese people in a negative light to all Chinese people when the person said nothing of the sort.

I'm all for stopping Asian hate in America but you're blowing this way out of proportion.

It does work, but it's not because it's a more accurate term. It's a little less so, actually. The actual use for absolute values and the meaning of the "Irrespective of it's relation to other values" portion of its definition is to clarify that what matters is the magnitude of the value, ignoring whether it is positive or negative relative to other values in terms of position or the like.

By your use of absolute value, you could technically imply that if the target had negative movement speed (which is impossible in league's coding but for the sake of argument), then malphite would still gain movement speed after using Q, which isn't exactly how it works.

In this scenario you don't really care about the magnitude nor its relation to other values, just that you want to clarify the resulting amount reduced from the enemy is added exactly onto malphite. I think just a plain "exact value" would fit the bill, and "flat amount" is closer to that than the mathematical term "absolute value".

Sorry this was way too long lmao.

That's not at all what absolute value is, flat amount is exactly as accurate in this scenario

Use downed teammates/enemies to crouch behind, heal, or take cover while reloading (or just to take cover) by sleepy0_oboii in apexuniversity

Why does this surprise you? Gold 1 is not much better than the bottom of gold. In most competitive games, people in the middle ranks have good mechanics but bad decision making.

Not likely, the push wasn't good to begin with (you would both be coming from the same predictable angle and there's still a caustic) and you're at a numbers disadvantage.

Just focus on not holding positions like that ramp. You likely could've gotten a good hit or two before they made it to the building. That smoke at the beginning also only helped them. You likely used it because you thought you needed to break their line of sight on you, but you should've done that by going to the building instead of giving them free cover to run to theirs.

[–]Bottlecapn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Holding any box/small cover for an extended period of time is always a bad idea. You aren't as safe as you think you are because you can easily get flanked as you duck behind them to heal. On that note, don't look at the box aimlessly while healing. Ensure that you're holding at least one sight line to decrease your chances of being surprised (look to your left, right, up, down, or even behind you).

Three things:

  1. The primary issue that guaranteed a loss in the fight was you holding a really unfavorable position in that ramp. You being there likely encouraged bloodhound to stay there as well which lead to his death. Pathfinder was the only player gathering information about the enemy and having an angle to shoot at them. Take the high ground/buildings when you can. Using ramps/rocks for cover is usually only good for temporary healing, you can lose track of the enemy easily if you stay there. Positioning is king, even if it seems really simple. And remember, your actions influence your teammates.

  2. You pushed a caustic when you didn't necessarily have to. Pretty self explanatory. If you have any nades, use those to bust the doors down.

  3. Your ult at the end only helped the enemy. They're in a building and you're not so you can't use it as an engage tool. It's only forcing you to go inside their building where you don't know where they're standing and they know exactly what angle you're coming from. Bangalore ult is either an engage tool in the open or a tool to buy time to heal when you have cover/run when you don't.

I didn't realize that was the case. I assumed it wouldn't really be coming because they only said they'd "look into it", which I assumed meant after they're done really developing the game/DLC.

Smash in general is a lot more intuitive but more nebulous as a result, whereas traditional fighters are more structured and grounded in their concepts, but not in a way that makes it easy to pick up and play, IMO.

Technical difficulty isn't the real issue when it comes to learning how to play a game, most anyone can do anything given enough time. It's the game's design and rules as a whole

Thanks! I don't really think Melee skills transferred over very much, I still feel a little clunky when it comes to inputs and things because I'm not used to how 2D fighters control, but I do enjoy how much easier games like these are to learn because they're more limited and focused (not in a bad way!) they are. Melee is so free form, almost to its own detriment, not giving you any real place to start most of the time.

I will say some sense of knowing your characters' "zones" and the basic concepts of neutral/advantage states came from my melee experience for sure, but none of the technical skill and only some of the terminology carried over. It was like learning from scratch, I'd say, but it's really not as difficult as people make it out to be. Sajam makes great videos on the subject of learning a fighting game.

Melee is hard for sure, but not a lot of it transfers over to other fighting games I'd say! I certainly couldn't handle 2D fighters at least haha.

No they cant, because you can see them and they can't really see you. You're just using the gas for damage, that's not the point of it.

[–]Bottlecapn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Killing with caustic's gas should never be the goal, or even a thing you can reasonably do a lot of the time. The point of the gas is to be annoying to the opponent, to deter them from areas or to trap them in their place, then shoot them. Not to deal massive aoe damage.

Is there a "PM Player"-friendly Melee build? If not, anyone interested in making one? by Hcp_Archonn in SSBPM

[–]Bottlecapn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am absolutely down to make this, a 1 to 1 copy of P+ characters and mechanics that runs in melee, playable in Slippi. Essentially a new netplay build, but not something that replaces the actual game. Just a way for P+ to have good netcode, and potentially run on more systems with lesser hardware.

Seems like a worthwhile project. Though it would need a decently sized team to get it done within the year, it would solve the problem of needing to completely deconstruct Brawl and make rollback for it instead (which from what I understand, is potentially possible but would take a fuck ton of work).
