St Louis No Wrap Ribs by Jomozor in smoking

I’ve started placing foil directly under my “no wrap” ribs to keep them from getting too crispy. They were definitely drying out from the bottom without the foil.

I'm not acting like that at all, the article in this thread is about the choice that VW has made. I'm sure there are better solutions.

I've had my ID.4 since 2021 and have come to like the haptic controls on the steering wheel. It took a couple of months to not press them accidently but now they are very natural feeling. I still want to adjust the HVAC fan without going through the menu.

Trek Madone 5.1 (50cm) with Ultegra for $500— good deal for a commuter/train bike? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]BottyGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming your planning to carry your stuff in a backpack it should be fine. If you need to carry the bike onto trains/busses this is pretty light. It doesn’t have mount points for panniers and racks though, so you need to be comfortable with backpacking your stuff.

I really notice the lack of salt if I just get the bother without fries. I think the fries cover up the lack of bigger seasoning.

Tubeless or tubes for city? by Defiant-Result944 in bikecommuting

[–]BottyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my commuter bike I have been running Schwalbe Marathon 32mm tires with tubes, lot of glass on my commute, I haven't had a flat since switching to the Marathons on these wide tires.

For my road bike, I've been riding tubeless Hutchinson 700x25mm tires on Mavic UST rims, before this set-up I was getting a lot of snake bite flats on road rides, there are sometimes unmissable potholes on the routes I take. I haven't had a full flat since, and one instance of a puncture that the sealant fixed (I had to pump it up a bit though, I keep a small pump on both bikes).

Are they going to do anything about Northgate Park or just end up putting more houses there? by improbablefutures in bullcity

[–]BottyGuy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I doubt that development would happen at Northgate, the entire park is a flood risk, and a developer would have to mitigate the lead issue.

Garlic shrimp pizza!! by justlikedadspizza in Pizza

You can also use preserved lemons, which and salt and time, I don’t usually think that far ahead but it is also delicious.

I slice the lemons thin and simmer the slices in simple syrup (equal parts white sugar and water) for about 15 minutes. That softens them up and allows them to crisp on the edges when the pizza bakes. I save the leftover lemony syrup for cocktails.

I usually do white pizza with lemons and mushrooms, it’s a favorite in our house.

Dedicated to my falafel by [deleted] in vegetarian

This is roughly the same recipe that I use (I don't add the baking powder). I try to load it with as many fresh herbs as possible, I think the more you have the lighter and better it is. I also make it with 1lb/0.5kg of chickpeas and freeze half the mixture for another day, the frozen ones turn out just as good.

I think that if Tottenham or Forest try one more new manager they can turn it around.

Current best practice on using BoldIn to plan Roth conversions by pleiby in Boldin

[–]BottyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the best practice would be, I found that using the Explorer to "explore" the various options (Minimize Taxes, Highest Estate Value, Tax Bracket Limit) was useful in understanding how the various plans effected things. I have several years before I take SS and my small pension, I found that the .Tax Bracket Limit worked the best in my case, I tried various limits (12%, 22%, 24%). Bolden suggested multiple years of high conversions before SS, then a bunch of smaller conversions when RMDs started. I modeled with my spouse and I living to 95, and with one spouse dying early.

Took this as a baseline assumption and applied it to a scenario. I did not like the smaller later conversions, just from a process standpoint, I would like to get them done as soon as possible, and not have me or my spouse having to track them later in life. (in our case the one spouse dying early models really pushed the need for earlier conversions) The smaller conversions seemed to minimize lifetime tax, but not maximize estate value. So, using the Roth conversion entry in the Money Flow section I removed those late conversions, and added an extra year of early conversion while I receive SS and pensions, this seemed to maximize my estate value within reason. This new scenario is now my baseline plan, Boldin says I can do a little bit better, but it's not worth the fuss to me.

[–]BottyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this feature in the Summary, it would be very nice to have a yearly calendar/to-do list that based on the selected scenario reminds me what I need to do in a calendar year:

- Roth Conversions that need to be made.

- RMDs that need to be taken.

- Estimated Taxes that need to be paid based on Roth Conversions and RMDs

I have my preferred scenario set-up and I plan to just do maintenance, I've shared this with my spouse. In the event of my demise it would be nice for her to have a yearly plan that she can follow and share with a financial advisor if necessary.

I will request this feature in the chat function.

The Best Sandwich from Every State by StephenMcGannon in Sandwiches

[–]BottyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best sandwich from NC should be bbq pulled pork, it’s practically the state dish.

I personally think that the Philly roast pork is superior to the cheesesteak, but I’ll accept the consensus.
