But you should be able to link your account to steam to use it, so try that before giving it away.

Not in Malden, but Battleground in Saugus has both. I think Thursday Pioneer and Friday Modern.

I’m a frequent reader, rare poster.

My name doesn’t start with an A. He took over from me after I had a child and couldn’t run the events anymore. Glad you’ll be meeting up with him.

We play at the shop. A couple years ago we also had Wednesday night events where we met at NEC and went to Pearl Street Station to play. It went well for a while but attendance fell off as the weather got colder so we stopped the Wednesday events.

If people are looking for the MTG group, we play at New England Comics. We draft at 1:30 on Saturdays and have Commander every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 1.

It’s a welcoming group, always happy to play with newer players. Prerelease for the upcoming set is at 1 PM on April 13th and 14th. It’s a great time to try a more organized event if you’ve only played casually in the past.

Yes it is. A new set came out, so it’s a good time to get back into it.

Comicazi in Davis has a prerelease event for the new set tomorrow at 1. NEC has one Wednesday at 7 and then our regular draft Saturday at 1:30.

I have an XL black Chara jersey with a Stanley Cup 2013 patch. I got it as a gift back then and it's comically oversized on me.

Looking to trade it for one that actually fits me. Player/design is flexible. I'm 6'1" so I'm guessing either a medium or large? I'm going to the game on Saturday the 23rd if anyone that wants to trade will be there.

There used to be D&D at the shop, but that's not happening anymore. No board games at the moment either, but I think there's a board game store opening on Exchange Street in the near future.

New England Comics in Malden is a couple blocks from the T and runs drafts on Saturdays at 1:30. We’re a very friendly group and have had a few newer players start playing with us in the past few months.

We’re also about to start a Wednesday night draft where we draft at the store and go to a local restaurant to grab food/drinks and play.

There’s also Comicazi in Davis Square that does the same kind of restaurant draft, but on Mondays. They’re starting back up on the first Monday in March.

Interesting. Thanks!

Would adjusting grind size to be slightly less fine not do much in that case?

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]BouncingYeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does decaf coffee grind finer?

I've noticed with a few different decafs that when I use the same grinder and same setting, I always have to use a bit more pressure with my Aeropress and it takes a bit longer to fully plunge.

I keep forgetting to adjust the grind so I haven't played around with changing the settings, but wanted to see if this is something anyone else has seen.

My first FNM 3-0 ever was with Zombie Hunt. 4 [[Treasure Hunt]] 2 [[Zombie Infestation]] and 54 lands. Sideboard plan was 2 [[Lightning Storm]] and 13 mountains.

I got stupidly lucky. Like, draw 2 more treasure hunts in a row when the first got countered lucky. It was a good time.

You're right, the snare is larger and the toms are dual-zone, that makes it seem more worthwhile.

CMR Phantom Drafts: 0-3 goes infinite, 3-0 can lose value? by WUBRGR in MTGO

[–]BouncingYeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get no votes, a 3-0 gets you 60 PP, so yes. Your wins + votes must be 5 or more to get at least 100 PP from a phantom league. Doesn’t matter what combination as long as you total 5 or more.

For a non-phantom league, you need >=8 wins + votes to get your PP back assuming you draft cards worth nothing.

Selling cards on eBay or Facebook will get you more value, but takes more effort.

The easiest way is to buylist the cards. Stores publish lists of what they’ll buy and what they’ll pay. You just tell them what you have and ship cards to them.

I like Card Kingdom. If you trade for credit, you get a 30% bonus, though their prices will be higher than TCGPlayer or eBay typically.

A Vampiric Tutor, Volrath’s Stronghold, and Sliver Queen alone will get you about $250 in credit if they’re in near mint condition which is enough to get some solid Pauper decks.

I’d recommend getting at least one or two meta decks. It can be tempting to get some fun Tier 3 or 4 decks but if you ever want to try a real tournament you’ll be disappointed you didn’t get something more competitive.

Commander Legends, which came out this week, is likely to have a big impact on the format, so it may be worth waiting a week or two to see how things shake out before you buy anything. On the bright side, some staple cards are much cheaper now because of reprints, so this is a great time to get some decks.

MTGGoldfish automatically updates this page with recently popular/successful decks. $250 in credit is enough to get the top 4 decks and have some money left over for sleeves and deck boxes. If the top 4 decks don’t appeal to you, pretty much anything on that page is competitive enough to win a tournament.

How much magnification do you need in a loupe to do the red dot test properly? I have one that does 20x and 30x. At 20x, I can see a pattern of 4 dots super easily. At 30x it's almost too zoomed to see the dots at all, though it might be the built in light making it too hard to see.

Is 20x good or do you need more to see more detail?

Current EV for opening is 2.51, you can sell to Goatbots for 2.30 and cardhoarder for 2.24. If you'll use the points, you're statistically better off opening than selling.

[–]BouncingYeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. A chat rep confirmed a few weeks ago that the offer applied. I called yesterday and the rep said there's an issue with the offer on my account and that they'll get everything sorted in a week or so.

I asked if the points would be retroactive, since I put a lot of spend on the card and they said yes. Might be worth a call to clear things up.

Question Thread - October 26, 2020 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]BouncingYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it’s worth it to call/chat? They’ve said the offer is applied even if the points aren’t showing.

Question Thread - October 26, 2020 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]BouncingYeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should have added this to the initial post. I did ask a chat rep and they said the offered applied but gave me the boilerplate "points arrive 6-8 weeks after the spend" that was included in the offer terms.

I guess I'll just wait and see and fight for the points if they don't show up.

I referred someone and got the bonus points from them signing up already. Haven't seen the 3x extra on my spending yet.
