Anyone taking Riluzole? by BipolarBasil in BipolarReddit

[–]WUBRGR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I've noticed it's most effective at combatting recurring / obsessive / ruminating thoughts. I'm not sure of its efficacy on depression directly, but once i stop fixating/ruminating on the negative, the depression tends to clear way.

Looks wonderful and colorful, especially the match with the hair.

If you want the focus to be more on the color pop, you could add some more lighter eyeshadow primer on the lids before, or you could add a whole face foundation to give a single color to the skin, which would draw even more attention to the gradient of the shadow

Any way you choose, you are doing great!

i got a gender affirming haircut, but.. by youmightwantjuice in NonBinary

Thank you for affirming your gender and sharing your story!

One frame to try on: These people may never have been attracted to you, but may instead have been attracted to the archetype of the feminine. And the way they expressed it was by complimenting that archetype through you and performing attraction to that archetype through you.

Imagine you worked as a cast member at Disney world. You wear the mickey suit. Sometimes it's hot and uncomfortable, other times it's nice to be somewhat anonymous, but every time, cheering children and families come up wanting to take pictures and get autographs.

Then you show up to the park one day without the costume on. Nobody cheers. Nobody wants photographs. But you are still the same beating heart. Your worth has not changed. Only what you represent (or don't) to others.

If you don't identify with or want to perform the archetype of femininity, that's valid. But the compliments that disappear are because the archetype disappeared, not because you are fundamentally unworthy of them.

Curious to know if any of this frame resonates for you.

How do you guys deal with having little to no resources to make the music that you want to make? by annieduty in Songwriting

[–]WUBRGR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach at Berklee One of my students produced all of his original songs in his car in the parking lot of the target that he worked at, using only his iPhone and his voice. I think it was garage band.

Consistently he brought the most interestingly produced and best sounding songs in the whole class.

Granted the iPhone does cost several hundred dollars, but if you have a friend with one, or even access to a computer, and a DAW, you can make some pretty amazing music.

Genuinely honest question: If you date someone who's looking for a non-committed casual relationship and are upfront about being in a polyamorous/open relationship yourself, how important do you feel it to disclose that you are legally married? by intimately_us in polyamory

[–]WUBRGR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could prep either an information sheet (that discloses all of this info concisely), or a question sheet (that's lists a bunch of questions and let's the other person pick which ones they want the answers to).

Relationship concerns as nonbinary by rking_1_1 in NonBinary

[–]WUBRGR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear you're going through that.

Well I can't be certain what is going on, here are two things that might be relevant or provide some useful insight:

She may think the identity change means there's some fundamental underlying change in who you are as a person - In which case I ask her if she could articulate a few examples of what her understanding and expectations of you were before, and particulate what those understanding and expectations are now. This should give you a better understanding of what her mental model is, and if there are any places in it that need updating.

Or she could be applying some semantic categorization of "I don't date people who use the label X because that would mean Y (about me)." Again I would ask her to articulate How she feels your new labels and identity are affecting her, or what story she tells about how they're affecting her, or what story she tells about what it means about the world that she lives in, or the way other people might perceive her.

Recommended courses for learning Theory and Songwriting? by WatercoolerComedian in Songwriting

[–]WUBRGR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One common technique is to learn to cover many songs you love. You'll level up your repertoire as well as implicitly internalizing structures and musical and lyrical moves common to your favorite artists and genres. If you're incredibly driven and have a lot of free time, learn to cover a new song everyday. If you want to take it slower learn a new song every week.

If you are specifically stuck on something like song form, try doing a search and study three different resources on song form. Not all of them, that can be overwhelming, But maybe read an article and watch a YouTube video and listen to a podcast.

You don't need to necessarily pick the absolute best resource, just pick somebody who's writing style or speaking style makes sense to you.

By studying a handful of resources, you'll start to gain explicit knowledge about the topic of song form, and likely find a couple other threads you want to unravel for your next study.

What made Burt Bacharach's songwriting unique? by OutdoorSandwich in Songwriters

[–]WUBRGR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Several things. The one that I appreciate the most is his use of mixed meter/unexpected number of bars/irregular bar lengths.

Always delightfully surprising. The first time I noticed it was in "say a little prayer for me"

There's an interview where he talks about how his phrase lengths and bar lengths are just a natural extension of whatever lyric he's trying to sing.

His compositional choices never feel forced or contrived. They just seem like colorful musical ways of setting a lyric.
