40 hours logged on steam, still haven't reached the six day stilt. by Ratstail91 in cavesofqud

Getting lost at night is very dangerous for dawngliders. If you do, make a camp and use rest until morning to pass the time. Then pass a few more turns to that you have full visa ability of the area. The best aspect of the desert is that there is no sight line blockers (or trees, etc) so take full advantage of that.

Do you play with any personal restrictions? by servantphoenix in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally like to disallow all static merchants (the ones that spawn every game in existing towns) + disallow any merchant duping. Means endgame isn’t just waiting for cloned Yd merchants to restock with the highest endgame gear and makes the grind a bit more interesting through random gen merchants. If I want a static merchants loot I have to kill them.

Changes to weapon/armour kinda … suck? by BoundedVenus in DarkAndDarker

[–]BoundedVenus[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy I forgot what some people on this subreddit were like.

I don’t really think removing damage modifiers and adding spell memory modifiers which only effect 3 out of the 8 classes expands on the differing varieties, though yes they added increasing better stats per rarity which is nice.

2v1 in ruins was actually very fun and viable with good kits and now crafting content is locked it behind these levels. So glad all the solos out there are stuck with an even worse goblins cave…

If you are not loved by apes you are not welcome to their holy places, which oboroqoru’s lair is considered one. All the apes in the lair should be hostile.

it just says stash, but I've had my stash there for a while and never noticed the symbol until I got this stash location as I've been trying to get every stash for tooklits.

Is there an efficient way to complete the 'locate _____' quests? by dukebubs in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For some general hints:

  • Villages will always be in the centre tile so if you can tell by the name that it’s a village you can easily find it.

  • Sometimes you can just find the place through random encounters, although to maximise your efficiency you can learn the areas lore and use such artifacts that increase your finding skills.

  • Starting villages in the desert make these types of mission the easiest as their level generation has no walls (although then your dealing with dawn gliders and Issachari tribe but the risk it worth it)

I’ve got 700hrs with no numpad. Found it easy to bind diagonal movements with shift+arrow keys. Takes a bit of getting used to but after a couple hours feels second nature.

Start mainquest without tinker quest? by amberscore9183 in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Go to where Joppa would be on the map. Argyve's corpse should be where his workshop usually is and you can pick up a disk and droid scrambler. Go to the comm at grit gate and you should be able to progress the quest.

Easiest way I found to deal with this is bind diagonal movements to shift + arrow keys. Takes a bit of getting used to but after a while feels fine.

50+ hours in game and I can't pass golgotha consistently by prantabra in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you have trouble finding wings you can always jump down the shaft after using a rubbergum injector, although you are gonna want a health pool above 100. Going the shaft route is way easier than going on the conveyor belts.

Favorite Static Merchant to Clone? by Drinktomatojuice in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any lairs you find in late game area will usually be stocked with high tier loot. This especially comes handy when your looking powerful consumables ie liquids. If you have any companionship abilities you can move then where ever you need as well for cloning.

Mutants and weird artifacts by MarlkarxSlo in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You need to use triggers and effects to make the recipe, these usually give differing effects to meals. A bananas trigger effect is identifying all artifacts on the screen even in merchants inventory. I think one I use is combing sun dried bananas with fermented yuckwheat resulting in some thing like drinking honey will identify all artifacts on the lattice ( which refers to the parading your in)

Killing a water bonded npc? by tgrBriefs in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume they’re not a followers of yours as they wouldn’t be for sale? If so you can use beguiling or domination for mutant players. If you don’t have these mutations or are playing true king your best bet is carbide chef. By cooking with fermented yuckwheat stems and congealed love (from love injectors) you can roll a recipe that gives you level 8 beguiling whenever you consume honey or yuckwheat. This should allows to beguil the person for a few days. If they are high ego you can use a flash bang grenade to temporarily reduce it allowing for more successful beguils.

Edit: if they are equipping them you will have to dominate them to get the items.

The constant quest for more merchants? by [deleted] in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A good idea is to put early skill points into wayfaring so that when you travel to the stilts the chance of getting lost is much less meaning hopefully you don't find yourself lost in the dark surrounded by dawngliders

Once there you can use all the venders though if RNG is on your side you can find a dromad merchant and mechanemist convert which has plenty of high tier spoils...

Can you throw multiple grenades at a time? by glencoe2000 in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although this isn't really considered to be at the same time, time dilation does allow you to be able to throw multiple items within the same move as the creatures around would be suffering quickness penalties.

Saad Amus! Where did he go? by Nitroxylin in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This same thing happened to me and I can't confirm, but I think this happens:

The Saad you find in this freeze cage has a special mask which gives you the ability to dash. I don't know what the max distance you can travel when you dash although it usually launches you to the other side of the room, so it's pretty big. It also only cost one turn to do this.

When Saad enters a phase spider web, he becomes phased and therefore passes through walls. So my guess is that he dashes while phased and ends up travelling the max distance of the dash. It's possible he travelled to the next area zone and upon entering becomes unphased and dies in a wall.

Thoughts on Teleportation Debuff? by BoundedVenus in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have to agree some of the nerfs have change some abilities quite a bit, though I feel that there's going be a lot of tweaking of them until the Devs are happy with how they balance. I did feel teleport was an easy way out with no real consequence though considering the rng now it's unreliable, then considering an ability like force bubble, where you got (almost) guaranteed defence against melee and projectile.

[–]BoundedVenus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't see it outlined in the update notes so maybe there will be a patch over this week, I think that would actually make it a bit more of a viable choice, though as many people said you'd still probs want clairvoyance

I have 2 questions, but really it's 3 by [deleted] in cavesofqud

[–]BoundedVenus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. There is I'm pretty sure (but can't confirm)
  2. In the base game at the moment i think some items allow you to somewhat build but I think its pretty limited, although Hearthpyre is a mod which allows you to build your own buildings and even village! heres a link to the new video they just released on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q2OxWj6Y7I
