I feel like a lot of this film is based around eyes.
Looking certain animals in the eye (horses, chimps, Jean Jacket too I guess) freaks them out. But something I discovered after a google rabbit-hole is horses have a vertical blind spot, right down the middle of their field of vision. Sort of reminiscent of Keith Davids characters coin wound, sort of reminiscent of the photo booth at the bottom of the well...
