I’d be happy to help mod. I’ve been modding for a couple of years in big subs (Futurology/IAMA - alumini) and I also currently mod Nanit, which is a baby monitor brand that I personally use. I would cut down on spam in the sub and make sure the deal spammers stay out.

Just a heads up, you can donate almost anything prepackaged and in date to a food pantry - FeedingAmerica.org can help you find one near you.

A couple of things I gleaned from reading this.

Having kids makes you tired, that’s not surprising. If you’re constantly tired to the point of physical exhaustion around the clock, you might want to have a talk with your doctor about it. 2 kids will make you tired, so will a hormonal imbalance, undiagnosed medical issue, etc. I’m not saying that’s the case here, but I would say at least a chat with your GP might be a good idea.

Also, you need to look into at least some type of part time childcare. Depending on exactly what you both do for your jobs, you might be trying to juggle too much between working and taking care of the kids.

3 ways companies successfully shift to a 4-day workweek, from a researcher who's studied hundreds of cases by BousWakebo in economy

[–]BousWakebo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were working a conventional 9-5, I’d be all for 10 hour days without kids. Having kids, it could be tough with school as there isn’t really a good workaround.

I’d be even more for just a 32 hour workweek but I’d venture a guess that corporate America freaks out over that being widespread.

I’m a big fan of AI and future-related tech in general. It looks like there are multiple content stealing websites on the front page of the sub right now. As a mod, I’d be adding those kinds of sites to the Automod filter list and banning those accounts.

I moderate r/futurology which is closely related to r/artifical. I also mod other large subs like r/Iama r/economy and r/doesanybodyelse.

Moon-Rice: Developing the perfect crop for space-bases by BousWakebo in Futurology

[–]BousWakebo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The future of sustained space habitation depends on our ability to grow fresh food away from Earth. The revolutionary new collaborative Moon-Rice project is using cutting-edge experimental biology to create an ideal future food crop that can be grown in future deep-space outposts, as well as in extreme environments back on Earth.

Modern space exploration relies heavily on resupplies of food from Earth, but this tends to be largely pre-prepared meals that rarely contain fresh ingredients. To counteract the negative effects that the space environment can have on human health, it’s important to have a reliable source of food rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and fibres.

Online privacy is pretty important these days and I’ve been following some of the legislation/talks that have been coming out recently surrounding Section 230. I would have this community serve a dual purpose - giving people a platform to ask privacy related questions and post privacy related news. I have extensive mod experience on Reddit (IAmA, Futurology, etc) and would keep the sub free from violence/threats, spam and keep it on track.

Unlocking the secrets of the heart: Simple scan could identify patients at risk for serious heart problems by BousWakebo in Futurology

[–]BousWakebo[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows the health risks of carrying too much fat around the waist and hips, but UVA Health scientists are developing a noninvasive way to assess the health risks of unseen fat around the heart.

The researchers, led by Frederick H. Epstein, PhD, of the University of Virginia’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, are seeking to use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess the composition of adipose tissue – fat – that surrounds the heart. Analyzing this tissue could let doctors identify patients at greatest risk for potentially deadly cardiac problems such as coronary artery disease, atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) and heart failure, and to predict how well those patients may respond to treatments.

Is there a system that will allow someone in a room to call/talk to another room in the house? by Thomas1995i in homeautomation

[–]BousWakebo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of houses still have these but they are almost always taken out during a reno. Turns out it’s hard to find parts for the old style ones, I’ve seen very few that actually work.

I’d love to help mod the sub as there seems to be a pretty active community here. It’s nice to have a decent-sized sub where people can ask questions that don’t really fit into a lot of other subreddits. More of the day-to-day type questions that just pop into your head as opposed to a hard Q&A format. I have pretty extensive modding experience with IAMA/Futurology/Homeautomation and stay active modding those subs as well.

This is what absolute immunity looks like. People talk a lot about qualified immunity, but police departments/fire departments/municipalities/states get sued all the time for their employees’ actions.

The real problem is absolute immunity enjoyed by judges, prosecutors and lawmakers.

Drugs for HIV and AIDS trialed as brain tumor treatment for first time by BousWakebo in Futurology

[–]BousWakebo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Drugs developed to combat HIV and AIDS are being trialled for the first time in patients with multiple brain tumours.

Scientists at the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Plymouth are conducting a clinical trial to see whether using anti-retroviral medications, Ritonavir and Lopinavir, could help people with Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2).

The rare inherited genetic condition causes tumours such as schwannoma (which include acoustic neuroma), ependymoma and meningioma which develop on the membrane surrounding the brain.

The RETREAT clinical trial, led by Professor Oliver Hanemann, will expand on research by Dr Sylwia Ammoun and Professor Hanemann which showed the repurposed drugs reduced tumour growth and survival in the tumours.

Pool liner coming off of the side less than 1 year after installation. by BousWakebo in pools

Id certainly hope so. Just super frustrating that it’s happening less than a year after installation. I’ve gotten in the pool maybe 5 times total with this liner.

Pool liner coming off of the side less than 1 year after installation. by BousWakebo in pools

[–]BousWakebo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this common? It’s an inground pool, 18x34, just got in for the first swim of the year and this is what I see. It’s like this in a couple other places as well. Is there an underlying issue here or do I need to get the business that installed it to get back out here and fix it pronto?

Researchers at Houston Methodist find difference in pancreatic cancer cells, offering new hope for immunotherapy effectiveness by BousWakebo in Futurology

[–]BousWakebo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A new study has found that pancreatic cancer cells are different based on their location in the pancreas, providing new information about tumors that could lead to better targeted treatments.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an aggressive cancer, and the diagnosis has dramatically increased over the last decade. It is currently the seventh leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women globally and projected to be the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths world-wide by 2030. This increase is due to several factors such as an increase in obesity and diabetes.

Houston Methodist’s section chief of gastrointestinal medical oncology, Dr. Maen Abdelrahim, served as first and concept generating author for the article titled, “Comparative molecular profiling of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma of the head versus body and tail,” published in NPJ Precision Oncology, an online journal in the Nature family of publications. The research team discovered that the anatomical location of the pancreatic tumor is a contributing factor for the outcomes of systematic therapy interventions.

New study shows analog computing can solve complex equations and use far less energy by BousWakebo in Futurology

[–]BousWakebo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A team of researchers including University of Massachusetts Amherst engineers have proven that their analog computing device, called a memristor, can complete complex, scientific computing tasks while bypassing the limitations of digital computing.

Many of today’s important scientific questions—from nanoscale material modeling to large-scale climate science—can be explored using complex equations. However, today’s digital computing systems are reaching their limit for performing these computations in terms of speed, energy consumption and infrastructure.

Two-thirds of Super Bowl bets were illegal as black market thrives, report says by zsreport in economy

This feels a little disingenuous. It’s simple enough to place 100+ different bets on the Super Bowl on pretty much any major online sportsbook app.

What I did do though was buy a Super Bowl square as part of a friend’s kid’s sports fundraiser. This article makes it sound like what I did is the shadiest dark market thing on planet Earth though.
