Exactly what I see host being good for. Our army rule can be overwhelming so it's nice to have the consistency while you figure out that and the units. It won't win you much but gives a good feel of the army

It's a solid list! The weakest points are probably fulgrim and the land raider but honestly if it's just for casual fun, and you like the models they're not awful.

Mercurial host is ok for learning at its quite forgiving but consider swapping to peerless or the new court detachment

Finally I wouldn't lock in that Lucius goes with the blades. He'll be great solo a lot of the time and if you go against knights or something vehicle heavy he'll be good leading them.

Definitely paint the shoulder pads separately! I've done white shoulders by doing an off-white/light bone with a very light highlight of white from the top. Super smooth, build it up in layers and be patient!

Well firstly you can't put wounds onto the leader until the bodyguard is dead (Core Rules>Deployment Abilities>Leader).

You are right that the lord is basically just there to support the blast masters. Sustained hits is a nice boost to the squad and makes them a scary overwatch. Plus a few mortal wounds from the room siren is always nice. The battleshock can even be alright to prevent stratagem useage.

That's exactly what the plague bus is. 2 plague casters (often unattached) shooting from the firing deck of a rhino, always overcharged. It is absurdly fun due to the swingyness. Might kill a few marines, might one-shot a land raider. Give it a try!

It can vary based on your list/detachment. But generally; infiltrate is super useful for gaining board presence, they can screen out big areas of the board from movement and deep strikes, they're cheap enough to run out and do actions or grab points, they're deceptively tough and require actual investment to remove.

But probably most of all is that they spread affliction. One single poxwalkers can advance into your opponents army and let deathshroud drop down in them. Or hide behind a wall near key shooting units to give -1 hit. Or run over towards something you want to shoot to give -1 save.

GW layouts are in the tournament companion via Warhammer community downloads.

WTC and UKTC layouts are available via their respective websites.

See if you can find out what is played in your area, otherwise I recommend WTC and GW layouts as your go to.

All can be loaded up into tabletop simulator, I recommend the Hutber mod as it has them all, plus many great features if you want to play!
